I have a low mileage 5.4L and tranny sitting around and was wondering if anyone has tried to stuff one in a Ranger?

Anything is doable, from what I've read the 5.4L is way too big to fit without a ton of fabrication. A Ford 460 fits better than the 5.4L, since the 5.4L has a very long block.

But if you've got the time and skills, anything is doable! :icon_welder:

I agree you can do just about anything to a ranger.

Like I always say "You can ge anything done if you throw enough time and money at it". I think the 5.4 would be a great motor.

Ford put a 5.4 supercharged motor (lightning motor) in a ranger and called it lightning bolt

The 5.4L is extremly heavy and Extremly wide.

If you have one laying around and a Ranger you dont mind sliceing up then go for it, but IMO it would be worthless for the amount of work you'd have to do.

Sell it and buy a good 351 4bbl/C6 combo.

They also did a MASSIVE amount of fabrication to get it in too. Including completely reworking the firewall and floor.

I ain't saying its a bolt in swap, there are mods, I'm just saying it can be done and was done...Good luck with it, and take many pics:icon_thumby:

What's the stock HP rating on a truck 5.4, something like 300? Sure don't seem like there would be much payback in doing the swap. Rebuilding any of the mod motors is expensive, really limited on boring and stroking options. Can always throw a blower on it but thats $2500-5000. Guess I'm too much old school but would sure go with a small block stroker, especially in a late model.

Thanks for the information guys. I am actually in the Process of swapping a 5.0 into my 1996 Ranger...I thought if the 5.4L was worth swapping into a Ranger I would post it in the parts section. I don't have the time, Money or skills to rework the entire Ranger for a motor like that.

Still keep us posted with pictures and questions. Good luck and enjoy the swap!
