What's a good way to WEIGH your Ranger??

When doing major mods on your baby--especially engine and tranny swaps--it'd be nice to know the before and after curb weights... but the bathroom scale is NOT gonna cut it.

SO... what kind of facility can typically do this, either total vehicle or per wheel?

do you have a petro shopping center, or a pilot truck stop? any places like that have a scale, you drive up on at the push of a button and get a certified GVWR and GVCW. Usually only costs 4-6$ depending on the truck stop. Basically any tractor trailer/truck stop will have a scale to fit your needs

I thought about that, but wasn't sure they could ACCURATELY weigh anything as light as the Ranger...???

I can just see the guy in the little hut, tapping on the readout display, "to get it to work"... lol.

got a dump near by? they will usually let you slide across the scales for free.

any DOT truck weigh station will have scales calibrated close enough for must peoples needs.

I forgot about dumps, yeah they do. I used a pilot travel center to get my ranger weighed, due to a title error. nice one wicked

we have a truck stop out here with a scale on it.

i weighed all of my trucks on this same scale.

my 96 ranger with all the lift and tires and everything came out to be about ~6200#

my 07 ranger stock came in at ~5800#

and the f-250 with a full tank of diesel was ~10,000#

Not far from the truth. I weighed my motorcycle with my 200 pound refrigerant scale one wheel at a time

thats a little different.

3400lbs/4=850lbs. plus the weight distribution on a ranger isnt anywhere close to 50/50. most bathroom scales dont measure the better part of half a ton....but maybe i have the wrong bathroom scale

Scrapyard around here has a pretty accurate one, thats how they pay ya, before and after weight

Look for this sign, they will be accurate and set up so you can weight each axle individually and know your weight distribution.

I drive my Zuki to the landfill site and get a before and after weight...works out pretty much to 1240 Kgs...but some of them weigh without the driver because you have to walk into the office...

So remember to subtract your own weight if you happen to be in the cab when you get the weighing done...

you can make a scale out of a hydrolic bottle jack and a pressure gage and alitttle math....

actually this can be done, but you'd need to build a device that only puts a fraction of the wheels weight on each scale. something with a known ratio like 5:1. the benefit of this method is knowing your vehicles balance. I have heard of road racers doing this.

we do it at my work all the time, were a certified public scale, the only one in the area, were so close that the military uses us when contractors charge them for weight transportation, that way the contractor cant overcharge
