I have a 1995 Ford Ranger and I am looking to change the oil in the rear differential. I want to know what type of oil comes stock in the 95 Ranger and if Royal Purple 75w-140 is a good choice since I have 100,000 mile on the truck. Someone help me!!

ima sure you will be ok. with that.. they normally take 80-90w

its just a differential, it doesnt much care what weight oil is in it. just dump anything that says "gear oil" on it in there and it'll be fine.

+1, and royal purple makes good products, but I wouldnt spend the money on diff oil

would it matter if he had a traction lock rear end?

if hes got a limited slip he needs to add fords friction modifier to prevent it from chattering around corners. the friction modifier is compatible with most types of gear oil.

does any ford dealership carry that? and usually how much does it run?>

most auto parts stores have it in stock. just tell the guy at the counter you need friction modifier for a ford limited slip and he'll get you what you need. if he doesnt, find a better parts store :icon_thumby:

lol the reason i ask is that i jusy bought an explorer 8.8 and need to change the fluid

grab 3 quarts of your favorite hypoid gear oil and 4 oz of modifier (it comes in 4 oz tubes/bottles) and you'll be all set.

i bought a 32 oz bottle of lucas gear lube. im not familar with how many ounces are in a quart.

32 ounces is one quart.

a hint for doing conversions like that, use google. type in "convert 32 ounces to quarts" or "convert 10 kilograms to pounds" and it'll give you the answer right at the top. it does all kinds of conversions.

so i need 3 quarts..... so 2 more bottles. that blows. that lucass stuuf is 8 bucks a bottle. i think im gonna buy something different

like i said before, its just a differential. it doesnt need or care if you use expensive oils or fancy additives. just buy whatever cheap house-brand gear oil is on the shelf and add the modifier.

this damn thng better hold up thats all i have to say...i mean it was only 100 bucks and its better then the 7.5 open diff i had in it before
