Hey guys, not sure what the problem is but heres what is is doing. I will be driving along and it seems like the idle is sticking up to high. I will go to stop at a light and push in the clutch, completely off the throttle yet the rpms stay at around 2000. Then it will suddenly drop down to 700 and idle normal. What could this be.it is constantly doing this, not always right at 2000 rpm but way to high. Now i did get water in the truck a while back while 4byin. Could this have screwed sumthin up? I dont think the throttle cable is sticking because it drastically drops back down after a second or two, maybe a sensor?
thanks Sean

A buddy of mine has an explorer, and when it is in park it randomly idles up and down like a yo-yo, just slower. 700-1800 rpm. I figure its prolly a sensor, let me know when you figure it out. Good Luck!

does it matter if it is fully warm or off a cold start (like sitting 3-12hrs)??

with engine off check the back side of the throttle plate and see if it is carbon up. might want to clean the AIC to.

could be just the return spring on the throttle plate.
If you suspect ya got it damp under the hood ...you prolly should remove the cap and dry things out under there. and retry

Its probably your Idle air Control Valve. take it off and clean it up. i used brake cleaner on mine with a tooth brush. worked great.
