Project: Moose-Knuckle


Sorry, no pics of the old steering, but I got her out for a little test run today.

The tone ring works well, it's actually a bmx gear mounted on the axle yoke, it steers, and stops, and flexes far better then I thought the front would.

But turning around in my neighborhood I sheered the grade 8s holding in my PS box. So i'm going to drill out the broken ends and run a bigger fucking bolt. And they highest grade they make.

Still need to mount my shocks, an alignment, have my drive shaft balenced, and a new conversion U joint for the rear.

It's a pretty unusual style of steering, kind of a mixture between solid axle jeep and TTB.

The drag link runs to the passenger side knuckle, and the tie rod intercepts the drag link near the passenger side leaf pack. I had to make a bend or two in it to clear the leaf pack. They're all very small angles, and the entire tie rod is made of 1.250" bar sleeved with .250" wall DOM tube.

having high steer would make things soooo much more simple for you I think. Though it may cost a little bit of $$
 
High steer is the plan. I just couldn't afford the knuckles and machine work etc.

I'm a guitar teacher and with the economy the way it is, people are getting rid of expenses that aren't necesity. So my job is in the shitter.

So soon I'll go to high steer. Before i hit the trails in the summer, but for gettin around town this is just fine. I took her up to 50 mph yesterday and didn't get any bump steer after hittin some gnarley pot holes. That was with out shocks and a steering stabelizer, so I think I'll be alright for now.
