oil level sensor

So I've got the rear main seal and oil filter adaptor fixed and they're not leaking, but now I have a sure fire leak comingfrom the oil level sensor. Anything I can do to fix it?

Drain the oil and pull the sensor. It should have a gasket around it. Clean up the gasket and sensor, put some RTV on the gasket and reinstall it.

My Younger brother... The Ford Senior-Master technician... refers to the oil level sensor as the "Must Leak" sensor.

TOO often it is the oil level sensor installed to detect leaks that is itself leaking.

His less than perfectly articulate way of saying it can accurately be expanded to a commentary on engineering-in a certain quantity of perversity.

But then again I'm more of a philosopher than he is...

i think i can identify with him. theres just certain ford designs that drain all the "philosopher" right out of me...

So there is suppose to be some sort of gasket there...maybe an o-ring?

work a couple tubes of j/b weld together and frost it like a cake............j/k

I don't remember for sure. I just know when I took mine out to rebuild the engine I sealed it up with some rtv and screwed it back in. No leaks.

I wouldn't mind using RTV if I had too, but would not a o-ring work just as well? Ace Hardware has different sizes to choose from, maybe just find one that seem to fit good around the sensor?

Sensor Leak

If you get an o-ring, make sure it's made of nitrile or buna-n. Don't use the very common neoprene o-rings. And whatever you do, don't epoxy it in (no offense meant), and don't get rid of it. That sensor saved my motor once.

maybe I just haven't found the right o-ring, but it's still leaking...what causing this anyway?

I suspect the sensors themselves can spring leaks. They aren't very expensive to replace.

When I got my Exploder, mine was STUCK! Oil level light was on (and switch closed) with a full crankcase. So, I replaced it from the dealer.

this morning I went ahead and placed an order for one...Lord willing that should solve our leak problem and dare I say it, our engine will be leak free

hello everyone been a lurker here for awhile, my first post, my oil level sensor is suspect leaking oil, I just looked on autozone and advance website and didnt see one listed, where did you guys find one and how much do they run? Its late at night so I guess my next step would be call the dealership, thanks in advance for your replies.....just noticed this is a 2 yr old thread, maybe someone will no the answer thanks....
