I went to go drop off some recycle at our Town Hall center yesterday. While pulling into the facility my Ranger conked out like it ran out of fuel. I noticed that I had 1/4 of a tank left. I tried starting it a few times,,, no good so I waited. I had power/electric, so that wasn't the issue.
I was listening for the pump when I turned the key without cranking it and I didn't really hear it engage perhaps due to possible outside noise.
After about 10 minutes it started up again with no issues and I drove home fine. The only thing I can think of is my Evap line isn't hooked into the charcoal filter yet, it's running halfway through the chassis rail. Does the fuel pump on my Ranger have a shut off feature if there's an evap issue?
FWIW I have been driving the Ranger for about 180 miles with no issues. I replaced all the fuel lines a few weeks ago along with a new fuel filter, sending unit, and a new fuel pump.
Could it be possible that I have a new faulty fuel pump?. I had purchased the fuel pump on Rock Auto. I didn't get the cheaper pump, but I got a midrange fuel pump. I'm not sure if the original ECU was replaced, so that's what im thinking could be the issue. However I do have a backup ECU I purchased on Rock Auto few years back, just in case I needed to replace it. Any ideas what to check. Thanks
