Rolling project, power steer gear question

Truck is an 87 ranger 2.9l 4x4. Currently building a short block. While its apart I am going to swap out the worn out steering box with a rebuilt one but I need to move the truck around the shop, so steering needs to work. This is my first project with power steering. Will I cause any damage to the new box if I am steering it without any fluid? If so I will swap out the box right before I install the engine. If not I'll knock it out and get it done durring the process.

On this note, any experience with bronco graveyards rebuilt ranger and bronco ii boxes?

I would think there is likely some sort of assembly lube... but maybe not.

If your just turning the wheel a few times to move around the shop... I don't think you'll hurt anything.

No experience with their steering boxes... but I'd bet it just the same box you could pick up at the local parts store.

Assembly lube was my line of thinking but idk anything about hydraulics beyond brakes. Looking at shipping, parts are far cheaper at napa. . . Not sure why that didn't occur to me but thank you for that, saved me some dollars XD

Don't get me wrong... I've bought parts for both my trucks from the Graveyard. I like the place and don't want to see them close shop.

Yea, I've gotten more than my fair share from them. Right now every dollar counts. . .
