C5 Transmission pan?

I've never used a torque wrench on transmission pan bolts but it certainly won't hurt. I'd guess 18-22 lb/ft for 5/16 - 18 bolt should be safe. Unless the bolts came from a hardware store.

I wanted to say one ugga dugga but for real numbers, that's the number in the back of my head too. And I've also never used a torque wrench on valve covers or oil pans. I just go back a few days later and snug up any loose ones.

So, hand tight and snug with two fingers is okay?

For context- when I first did the fluid and filter, I figured 18 ft-lb was adequate but it still bulged the bolt holes. They are the original bolts- so far as I can tell.

Like a valve cover I would just snug with a nut driver rather than a ratchet or a wrench to prevent overtightening.

Yes, I'm afraid I may have OTd by valve cover bolts as well. Leaked right away, and I was sure I was careful enough...

I think you can go a bit tighter than you normally would since you're using a lube locker gasket. Not crazy tight of course but you want the "gel" on the gasket to squish a bit and seal. It's not like a cork gasket where too tight will cause a leak.

For now I'm playing it very very cautious. I am letting it sit dry for at least 24 hours, hoping that may help with conformity.

I've used Lube Locker gaskets on differential covers many times and they are really great. Not a single one has leaked.

I wonder, with these older setups, is it normal for a slight leak after the first heat cycle?
