need a little more power

I've got Pacesetter headers on my BII. They've been on 5 years now. They fit perfectly and haven't had a bit of trouble with them other than knocking the crossover pipe off when doing some prerunner style fireroading. My fault not theirs. Solved with some muffler clamps on the slip joints. Only thing I didn't like was no O2 sensor bung as supplied. Seems odd since all 2.9s are F.I. I had to weld one in myself. They did provide a noticable boost, smoother with a little better accelleration and hill pulling. Not amazing increase but detectable.

An OHV 4.0l using EEC-IV will respond well to the following will yield reduced engine load with improved fuel economy
• drop in K&N air filter
• ∆ to an electric fan, two if you have A/C
• headers to freeflow single 2½" exhaust +20hp (Borla, JBA, Edlebrock...)
• bored stock T/B
*options A or B will add to the above*

PLAN A will improve from stock performance:
1) spark plugs +1 or 2 heat ranges
2) engine oil cooler
3) a set of high output coil packs
4) multi-spark ignition
5) 8 mm or larger silicon suppression wires
6) 4.0 Explorer automatic, dual core radiator
7) Hypertech, JET, James Duff EEC-IV CHiP
8) optional, mill 0.035" off the heads for 1.5 to 2 points of compression (+6hp/point)

PLAN B is how the Blue Oval should have sold them:
1) spark plugs 1 or 2 heat ranges lower
2) engine oil cooler
3) flow bench port/polished intakes to heads +20hp
4) optioal, SOHC 4.0L flat top pistons (+2 points compression, +12hp)
5) custom reground camshaft +20hp
6) high output coil packs
7) multi-spark ignition
8) 8mm or larger silicon suppression wires
9) Explorer 4.0l, dual core radiator
10) PCM CHiP
11) only premium fuel and all synthetic fluids

An arguably less expensive option to PLAN B is to swap in the Ford SOHC 4.0L. I completely agree that with 37" rubber, a rear is a MUST.

Considering the OP hasn’t logged in since January of 2010… thanks for bringing a thread back from the dead

@bobbywalter
Unfortunately a bolt-on eBay turbo, however seemingly common 🤔, exhaust work aside, does not resolve or improve it'$ fuel economy 🙄

are you sure about that?

Really depends on how you use it, if you need 300hp you feed 300hp.

Ecoboost people still somewhat struggle with that concept...

I know a guy with an EB...he doubles my mileage empty...but towing gets exactly the same as my 6.2 with a similar load

yup, towing gets the same mileage as a v8 na for the ecoboosts, but not nearly the pulling power.

i borrowed the fil's 2019 f150 king ranch to tow the 84 bmw 318 home on a flat trailer from north of austin. i was very unimpressed with its towing versus my 2017 nissan titan that had the 5.6 na v8 that we had just gotten rid of. with the titan, i would have only known i was pulling a trailer because i would see it in the mirror. on the f150, i knew it anytime i had to give it gas because it was a bog off the line or accelerating while on the highway.

Really? Ive driven some EBs but never towed with one. From what i read online they actually pull harder then the 6.2.

I havent towed anything heavy distance with mine but locally it tows great....yes its rev happy which took some getting used to....totally the opposite of my old 460 or even my 400s. Off the line you wouldnt feel it...at speed they were huffing.

The 6.2 huffs off the line a little (shouldnt say huff, but it dont have that jerky punch) but at 55-60 its great

maybe it was just his but it made me not want an ecoboost f150 if i ever have to tow. it made the trip but got like 13mpg and didn;t seem happy. and the truck only had like 40k miles on it.

it was super nice. the king ranch has all the junk, even massaging seats, but i would rather be able to tow better than have massaging seats

Was you in tow/haul?

My 5.0 bumbles around in normal, in tow/haul it gets is crap together and acts like it knows what it is doing. It is a totally different truck.

The 2.7/3.5 are supposed to be really good for towing, I have never tried one.
