New tools you've bought recently?

Improving my video recording equipment. Was hoping to see a discount on this for Amazon Prime days this week. That didn't happen. But I did get some accessories deeply discounted.

The bare camera was about that much. I got the "creator combo" which was over $900. I worked an extra day during the week of 4th of July and worked the holiday. My extra pay that week bought about 85% of the camera.

Made some progress on the welding trailer, I cut off part of the sides, the ramps, and a bunch of other junk. I'm ready to make light brackets for it but first I wanted to get the broken leaf springs fixed, repack the bearings, and swap tires (came with 4, two of them are basically junk.) I got all that done last night and I am sure glad I went through the bearings, they were pretty loose but was able to adjust them.

The trailer came with 500lb leaf springs and I think they were either junk to begin with or had been severely overloaded. Both were missing half of the bottom leaf and the top leaf on the passenger side was cracked. The welder weighs about 650lbs and the trailer itself weighs a fair bit so I went with 1000lb springs, I think that will be a bit more reasonable for the application.

HVLP from HF. I'm a beginner. This should be ok for now...

Those Spectrum guns are nice, I would be shocked if you ever found a legitimate need to upgrade. I have two of the Black Widow ones - love em.

Unfortunately, the Black Widows were a bit out of my price range :(

I got lucky, one of them was in the bottom of a box of junk that I bought and the other was like $50 at a pawn shop (brand new.) I would have NEVER paid $180 for them.

I don't think they're much better than the standard Spectrum guns though. HF HVLP guns are confusing - I have probably 7 or 8 purple ones, one of the $70 silver ones, and I had a $25 green one too. There is virtually nothing internally that make the $70 gun better than the $16 purple one. The green one is actually worse because there's no adjustable packing around the needle and it has more cheap plastic parts.

I'd like to get my hands on one of the normal spectrum sprayers to disassemble and compare with the Black Widow for scientific purposes.

Bit of an update on the trailer projects. Not really "new tools" but I did use my new-ish lathe to fix the hubs on the Dodge axle. After redrilling the bolt pattern on them, I had to turn the center down so that the Ranger wheels would fit. I had some spare chains and an old jack that I added, then shortened the trailer to 10' (was 12' long before) by removing the back 2'. After that I relocated the light brackets and added new lights & fresh wiring.

Figured I would try & sell this as it sits before I put more time into it. Really just needs a deck, maybe fenders and sideboards, and a title (easy process in SD.) I'm not sure that any additional work will make it worth much more anyway. I'm working on the lights and a couple other things on the other trailer, should have an update on that one here soon too.

To keep the thread on topic somewhat, I did buy a bunch of yard sale crap this weekend - another ancient sickle bar mower, a cool little side mount tool box, a box full of random sockets, wrenches, etc, a wood stove, and a couple nice Estwing hammers ($1 each!!!)

Also a Coleman lantern 😎

Found a set of these at oriellys, they are pretty much awesome.

Is that an inhaler?
no, just loom tools, those are FANTASTIC if you do any wire looming, I am not a fan of that style loom but I understand using it (use what you can get... it's what I'd do), at work we use a woven overlapping stuff that is much more difficult to use and the old tool we had didn't work very well unless you only had like 3 wires, those type are fantastic...

I ran across an estate sale today - if you want to call it that - more like an incredibly large, disorganized collection of boxes of random old tools. Lots of woodworking stuff, old saws, hammers (probably hundreds of hammers) and who knows what. My time was limited so I bought a cool Stanley plane, a straight peen hammer, tap handle, and a couple items for my vintage mechanic box - a Craftsman "BE" 1/2" female drive ratchet from the 40's and a really cool Blue Point tap & die set. It's missing most of the contents but the box is awesome.

Yesterday my plasma cutter arrived. Haven't used it yet. Tomorrow will be the test as I have a bunch of crap to cut off my trailer.
