What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Putting chicken on the truck grill is generally not how it's done. Not to mention vehicle grills are not very heat tolerant.

What about this truck grill? Took me a bit to find the pics…

Is that chicken or is that guy smoking salmon? Cause if that's salmon it's enough to make a Prince Rupert charter guide blush.
No idea, kind of looks like ribs maybe?

They look like ribs to me.

Installed Powerstop Z17 front pads a week ago. Getting a grinding noise the very first stop of the day (yes I did the bedding in process on new rotors). Have only driven it 20 miles since pads installed, but wondering if I installed them in the correct orientation. Does anyone know of the little tab in the blue circle means its an inner or outer pad? I could also have a pad guide not centered as well. I'll be taking them apart this evening to investigate so would like to make sure the pads go back un correctly. Thanks

The little "tab" is a wear indicator. It will screech when the pads wear to the point it rubs the rotor. AFAIK... it's pretty much always on the outside pad.

I'm a few days or a week late...didn't have funds to have my mechanic do this, so I dug into the engine. Had to replace both valve covers due to each had a small Crack and leaking oil. Valve cover gaskets needed replacing also. Others items I wanted addressed as well.

Went to O'Reilly's and got everything I needed and some other things ahead of the job.

Unhooked the battery and got to work. Removed the upper intake manifold. Found that gasket was bad. Removed the valve covers to see they were bad. After unhooking alot with that part, I was wiped out. Sat down for some easy stuff. Removed from the upper intake manifold the egr valve and saw it was bad.. dpfe..vacuum modulater was bad. Those were aftermarket that were put on in 2020. I dug thru my containers of parts and found all ford parts an egr valve, egr tube, dpfe, vacuum modulater. They were used junkyard parts. I inspected all 4 peices and cleaned them up. I called it a day, could not do anymore.

Came back next day to continue on, installed the replacement valve covers and gaskets. Installed all the used oem parts onto the plenum, began to put the rest of the engine back together. New egr valve gasket, new iac gasket, resealed the egr tube to the exhaust manifold. New plenum gasket also. All in all..the things I suspected turned out those needed to be addressed. Replacing the egr valve and tube, dpfe, vacuum modulater, some rubber vacuum hoses, all those new gaskets, all are felpro. That is what was used on this engine when it was redone in 2017.

What I learned from this is, I can still definitely do this. Now there are definitely limitations and restrictions, chronic pain, health issues slowed me down, I did it though. Where I'm currently living has a garage and it's really great...that way you can leave everything out.

Daylight, I started the engine to let the ecm relearn, and to inspect everything. The engine sounds crisp and clean. As I've been driving it the past week, it's really stronger than before. Using those oem parts and replacing the gaskets for certain things and those vacuum hoses really made it be alot better. I doubt the mechanic would have found those issues. It felt good to do this, and to be able to take it very slow.

With how the engine is now and the sound thru the flowmaster 44..I'm satisfied with the results.

That’s awesome man! Glad to hear it!

Kicking myself as I was told by a mechanic friend that the knocking sensation I feel in the floorboard is most likely my LCA's. I did install new ball joints in them when I did all my work, I was just trying to avoid messing with the coil springs. So in the next few months I'll be replacing those. Get to pay for another alignment as well, joy.

Today, the 2011 got a bath.

The day before and the one before that was replacing the hard drive in the computer and reinstalling all the software (the old hard drive was starting to throw test failure codes). Part of the reason it took two days is that I made the mistake of fiddling with the video driver settings and couldn't get the settings back to where they needed to be. So, I had to start all over again.

With the old blue Lincoln up and running for the summer, I used both of my Rangers to keep the maple spinner seeds, and the Gumtree pods from hitting the driveway.

Mine are horrible this year. I have 2 about 15 feet apart and they are around 75' tall, massive trees. Didn't have any helicopters last year.

Is it a
