No offense, but an earthquake could break off Washington, Oregon, and California fron the continental USA and they could become their own country and I wouldn't care.
Texas has had a border problem that has gotten worse over the past few years. They continue to build a wall and man the border with Police and National Guard, but they're in constant conflict with the federal government trying to secure it.
OR and WA are on the North American Plate. Most of California is as well. That portion west of the San Andreas Fault is sliding north. As plate tectonics go, eventually Los Angeles will be just west of San Francisco.
The real reason we have an problem with the border is because it is seen as a source of cheap labor by those who don't want to pay people.
