I am wondering how to test my PCM for intermittent function. Sometimes no cel on key on, starter functions no fuel no start. Remove battery cable wait then cel indicator with key on will start, sometimes cel off won't start. How often does the PCM intermittently fail? Is this a Common problem? Troubleshooting advice ?? 96 ranger 4.0 auto
Is there a transmission switch that would affect fuel pump circuit?

That kinda sounds more like an intermittent ignition switch or EEC Relay.

I'd probably be looking at those connections first.

Next time it happens... listen for the EEC Relay to click as soon as you key ON.

Trying to l😬cate the EEC relay. Google said passenger side kick ? Is it near inertia switch?

Let's back up...

This is your 96?

I don't have schematics for this one... but if it has and underhoad fuse block... it's in there. Should be a road map on the cover.

Your first question was how to test your ECM. Well... connect a scan tool and ensure the ECM communicates with the tool.

Yes. The cover has no labels but numbers. I saw a diagram theat identified the relays and one had to do with PCM I think. I'll look again Hooked up scan tool. Initially wouldn't recognize , but later did.

Ac/PCM power/fuel relays. Intermittent problem and my daughter drives it to high school and work

In my experience... if a ECM fails... it's done and doesn't work intermittently. Sure... there are always exceptions

Intermittent are hard to locate... but most times are attributed to poor connections.

Been running. The information has been valuable. I've gained a better chance at diagnosis. Thank you Sir$
