What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

SO...for the next two days I pulled and reinstalled replacement sensors multiple times with no change.
Got out the EVT manual and discovered that I was mistakenly removing and replacing the throttle position sensor instead of the maf
SLAP me silly and call me Shirley (apologies to my sister named Shirley). ;brownbag;
:icon_confused:

So you bought and replaced a "MAF" sensor, only to discover later that it was actually a TPS sensor. Did you go in the store asking for a MAF sensor? If so, how did you end up walking out with a TPS multiple times?

This feels like a "D'OH" on many levels.

It wasn't quite that bad...I had a couple of TPSs' laying around from earlier pull-a-part missions and I was swapping them out - have absolutely no idea what I was thinking. I couldn't figure out why nothing changed.

What accessory drive system and how bad did it bite the wallet?

I'm G2G with the Explorer stuff on the 5.0 in the 99 Ranger, but I'm going to need to get one for the FE in the F-100. Between the alternator upgrade, power steering, and eventually adding AC, the factory V-belt system just isn't going to be enough.

CVF racing kit with AC, Saginaw PS, & Alternator - I'm in the automotive performance industry so got a sizeable discount. Ran me about $1200 still.

Looks awesome though

Getting closer. If I moved any slower on this I’d be going backwards, good thing the truck doesn’t move at all!

Figured out the code, now that I fixed the exhaust leak at the catalyst it appears that the cat isn't working (don't know why I didn't look in the pipe... will do that tonight I guess), watched the pre and post O2 traces and the post is switching about as fast as the pre... for now I'll put in an antifouler to keep the light off...

I got the Ranger running again! New heads and head gaskets are working like a charm. I plan on more work soon (timing chain replacement, suspension, etc.). My most notable experience during the heads and head gasket job was putting on a new water pump, water gasket, fan clutch, and fan blade. Water pump was so rusted and busted it was pushing no water.

How many miles were on the old water pump?

Picked up parts from machine shop yesterday. Today I got the short block about 90% built. Was missing oil pump gaskets and needed gasket sealer, should have all of that tomorrow. If all goes well I'll be finishing up short block assembly tomorrow, and maybe start on pulling the engine out of the truck.
