A thought before I retire for the evening.
If one viewed my actions today, my path, you would’ve seen a day of routine errands and chores, a little real estate work, and fetching the little yellow beast for my hobby. A dinner with sweet pea where the dogs played together.
But if you could look into my heart and soul, you would’ve seen something completely different. When I was a boy, I watched One World Trade Center and then Two World Trade Center rise into the sky in the New York skyline from my bedroom on the Jersey side. I was raised with incredible national pride (I’m talking about Poland), and then we duplicated that in the United States of America.
Fast forward to my last year in college, where I worked with the British in Africa. It was my first exposure to other cultures, complaining about the USA, and in the same breath, asking how they could come over here. I also learned that the British and the United States, our people, are joined at the hip and the heart in all international endeavors.
My career continued in international circles, based from Atlanta. The pattern was always consistent with others from elsewhere, poking at us or outright complaining as they benefited from our strengths, ethics, and world leadership - leadership, not domination. I guess my career came full circle when I served on the board of the World Trade Center branch in Atlanta (there are some 250 or 300 world trade centers, franchise from New York or around the world).
I also vividly remember standing around a Ford pickup truck in the parking lot of our engineering company, watching a TV plugged into the cigarette lighter as 1 & 2 and other WTC buildings came down. At the time my kids lived about 30 miles south of Manhattan in Jersey. I lost friends from high school, and my kids lost friends and mentors in their neighborhood.
Certainly not about me, or mine, just a little frame of reference. I’ve been on this earth long enough to see good politics and bad politics, questionable elected officials, and terrific leaders. But one thing was constant, the whole time, whether I was here, abroad in friendly places, or abroad in China, or unfriendly places that may not be our best friends:
Americans, mainly United States of America Americans, always stand tall, always lead, always chart the path, and always take care of those they can. I never had the privilege and honor of military service or law-enforcement, but I’ve always had the highest regard for both.
What we have here is wonderful, but it is not guaranteed, it is not natural. It has been created by patriotic efforts and the belief in a good God, equal opportunity, honesty and fair play. The best things we have, and share together, not the divisive rhetoric we hear all day from political rivals. It was set up, it has been maintained, and it is still guaranteed by those who serve. I fear it is being gravely undermined by those “in power.“.
Honor those who serve, pray for them, as I do daily, and never forget. Never forget those who would do us harm, and never forget that this is a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people. Stand up for it, the best leaders don’t worry about being canceled, and don’t accept anything else.
My two cents, I hope it helps.
