What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I’m pretty sure my 97 extended cab 4.0 2WD has a 17 gallon tank. Weren’t they all 17 gallon tanks in the middle? And then you could get a second tank behind the axle?

You can fit a second tank in a ranger? 🤯🤯
At one time Ford had it as an option. The extra tank held 13 US gallons. It was dropped a few years before the original square-body Rangers were replaced for 1993, at least in North America. I wonder whether the option was still available in Mexico and South America later, since my 2011 still has the angled metal near the tailgate to give space for a second filler neck.

Supposedly fuel injection + evaporative emissions requirements killed the second-tank option here. The extra tank was also in a vulnerable spot in a severe rear-end collision.

Some members here have used Bronco II tanks as a second fuel tank when modifying their Rangers.

I think my '97 Ranger has a 21 gallon tank in it, I thought most extended cabs had somewhere around 20 gallon...
My 2011 SuperCab fuel tank does hold 20 gallons. I've come very close to that a couple of times during refills on the road. Looks as though a somewhat smaller tank was standard on '90s models.

Technically 19.5 but as long as nothing is leaking, you could easily get that extra half gallon in there but you risk contaminating your evap system.

Apparently the regular cab long bed had enough clearance to get a legit 20.3 tank under there. Maybe a flatter upper side profile? Somebody knows but I don't. All I've had is short bed Rangers.

My '90 has a 16 gallon tank I know for sure but it's regular cab short bed... but my '97 extended cab the tank goes WAY under the cab like almost to the drivers seat I think... but that's a 4x2 so there's a little more room... I know I've put 20 gallons in it but thought it was 21 gallon for whatever reason...

The 16 gallon tank would go about 6-8" under the cab if I remember right, if it goes further then the tank is larger... my "check gauge" light comes on (I put an explorer cluster with tach in there, it added a fuel light apparently) at about 18 gallons which is more appropriate in an explorer getting 16-19mpg... when I put 50k miles or so on my V8 Explorer I normally filled up at 300-350 miles if I remember right, was right at 16-18mpg almost every time unless towing or something.

All of my extended cabs said they had 19.5 gallon tanks, but my 92 STX tank has a weird bump out into the frame pocket that sure looks like it would make it more of a 20 gallon or more

My manual for the 2011 says the regular cab, short bed Rangers are supposed to have a 17 gallon tank but 2011 is a fair good bit of time and design away from a '90. So it is very possible the information doesn't apply to older Rangers before, say 1998 when they did the redesign of the frame and cab.

Yesterday I got the frame section harvested from the donor and my old section in place and tacked on the donor. Maybe today I can make some progress on mine…

Here's proof that driveshaft loops do their job. This one got mangled bad but the cab floor is untouched and I still have both my legs.....

Such a contraption saved the underside of my CR-V a couple times when the u-joint snapped. They indeed do work. Granted they weren’t anywhere near that robust but the vehicle wasn’t putting out the power of your truck either.

Other than a trip to the grocery for an emergency watermelon, there won’t be any Ranger news for the next few days from here. It’s been above 95 most of the week, and it’s supposed to be 100 the next two days. To hot for these old bones
