What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Google and listen to Johnny Cash’s “one piece at a time“ from 1976. Maybe we could all vote and make that our theme song
I love that song. My little black truck is turning out to be a little like that. Yesterday was a front sway bar from an Explorer. I pulled a rear sliding window, a headliner, new dash bezel, a new grill too. I got an e fan, tow loops and a winch, a hoodliner, nerfs, a tonneau, a new bed liner, new wheels and tires, new tie rods as well. I've got a rear sway bar from a Mazda or a Bronco II on my list. I'm getting new shocks in a about a week.

I call it the Frankentruck.

Ford is and always was the grand master of the assembly line. Everything is put together in the right order and the right people. New trucks, perfect trucks, roll out just minutes apart.

But mine is old, twenty years now, and it needs a second life. So I trek down to the U pull yard whenever I can and reassemble one piece at a time, and all in the most random sort of way. Maybe there will come a day when it finally becomes new again.

I am thinking about doing a Kubota swap on my '01 4x2 std. cab stepside. It would be the ultimate fuel mizer. I'd have to do a manual trans swap which would be a PITA, I think. I kind of wanna hold out until I find an extended cab 4x4 with a popped engine or trans to do a Kubota swap. The truck would be used for traveling and camping. It wouldn't be set up for hard offroad wheeling. Keep the lift low and run 33 in. tires. Out of all my offroad rigs, I think 33s are about right for a smaller truck that is daily driven. What do you guys think? I can get the engine this week if i can get my truck fixed or get my

Go for it! A few years ago when I was dreaming about the Road Ranger, and everybody went crazy, one guy (forgive me I don’t remember who) said “I love weird stuff, leave him alone” or something like that. Just keep pictures coming.

BTW, when I was working on the Road Ranger trailer tonight, when I was cutting a 2” tube with an abrasive blade on my 15” Hitachi miter/chopsaw, it didn’t shut off when I released the trigger! Scared the crap out of me, I had to pull the plug. I was afraid it was going to be a scene like from a Halloween movie!

So, instead of getting the rear bumper welded together, I spent over an hour taking the whole handle apart, taking the switch out and taking it apart, cleaning up the contacts (I think they stuck together) and then putting it all back together. Works fine now, but I need a new abrasive blade and a new pair of underwater. I think it started out 16 inches and it’s down to about 10 or 11 now…

I'm certainly not the first to walk this road. I've enjoyed watching your projects. Many of us noobees look to you guys not just for wisdom but also inspiration

Be careful with this guy. I think he’s just trying to butter everybody up to get one of these:
