What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

"Wheel hub retainer" is not "lug nuts"

My Google search keeps coming up with 100ft-lbs.

My F250 Superduty only needs 150-165 ft-lbs.

Yeah, the wheel hub retainer is the big nut in the middle on the front axles...

Haven't touched a Ranger in a while, left on a lake camping trip on Monday and just got back this afternoon... will take the '97 Ranger to work tomorrow though...

There's still some gear noise in the F350 transmission but it worked fine on the ~400 mile round trip with about 13-14k pound combined weight... even almost made it up the mountain pass in 4th gear, was just in 3rd for about a mile... I need an intercooler and new injectors... On a positive note, after cooking all week in the hot high desert after the dielectric grease in the speedometer connector it started working on the way home! We'll see if it stays working...

Axle nuts vs. lug nuts?
Axle nuts: The Explorer is IRS and has halfshafts with axle nuts at the outer ends.
Lug nuts: I don’t need to explain these.

Renewed the plates and lunch date!

I admittedly "half a$$ed it" when I did the pre-2008 lift. I never touched the mounting bolts on either the lower or upper control arms. Granted it was only about an 1.5" change but to "do it right" I should have loosened them. I did get an alignment done afterwards since both the upper and lower ball joints and the tie rod ends were done while I had it all apart.
Yeah, mine will definitely need an alignment, I had both upper control arms off, new bushings, new alignment cams and bolts, and had to replace the driver side rear upper control arm bracket…

I have a torque wrench that will do the job. If you come to borrow it, remind me you need the 3/4" to 1/2" adapter.
Thanks, maybe I can swing over and borrow it if you’re ok with that and don’t need it for a bit. I have 3/4 to 1/2 adapters. I have a whole pile of adapters really, lol

@snoranger , got any bright ideas on why my 95 F-150 has no tail light (parking/marker), but has brake and 4-ways in the back? Bulbs appear to be fine and a new bulb didn’t make a difference. I’m getting 0.14 volts in the socket and that’s it. I haven’t done a deep dive yet on it, but if you or anyone else has any bright ideas of where to look first, I’m all for it. Front lights all work fine so it’s something to do with the back…

Sorry. Don’t know how I got derailed to lug nuts earlier.
Probably because there was a lot of talk about lug nuts and then I throw out the axle nuts, lol

Next place I would check is the connector right there in the corner of the frame rail and crossmember. Unplug it and check your power there. Could also check the ground on the crossmember.
