Lever Guns Anyone?

it appeared that the receiver and barrel were painted black

The basic model has painted receiver and strap at the end of the stock. Every else is blued. You can also get them in brass or brushed nickel.

I really, really want a lever rifle in 45 Colt. I have visions of long octagon barrel... I think Henry makes one but they are just so expensive. I wasn't real impressed with some of the Henry .22LR levers I looked at, it appeared that the receiver and barrel were painted black as opposed to blued. Felt kinda cheap. Maybe the more expensive ones are better?

I also find myself interested in a 45-70. Or any other straight wall cartridge I guess... 30-30 is cool but I just have such a huge boner for straight walls.

Prices on quality levers aren't going down anytime soon....

I ashamed to say what I paid for my recent acquisitions lol.

I have a few. A Henry .22, a Western Auto .30-30, and a Marlin .45/70. I like them and have had them for a while. With firearm prices being what they are, I don't think I will get anymore anytime soon. I'd like to get one in .45 Long Colt but I don't feel the need to get one that bad.

I have 3 lever guns.

An 1895 Marlin in 444. A Marlin 336Y carbine youth model in 30-30. A Henry Big Boy carbine in 44 mag.

I have harvested quite a few packages of 'venison on the hoof' with those 3 rifles.

I would like to have (key word "like") a Ruger lever gun in 44 mag. It would look at home next to my tube feed semi-auto 44 mag carbine.

I had a Remlin 336C 30-30. It was a POS and Marlin gave me my money back.

When they get to splitting up grandpa's guns I did speak up for his '94 30-30. 1970's with the weird bluing thing they liked to do, he hardly shot it. It looks perfect otherwise aside from really needing cleaned.

Thankfully my 1985 was before the Remlin disaster. I think I got it the year before Freedom Group got their greedy mitts on the brand and ruined them.

I have a Remington 1911 from 2016. The finish on the gun is garbage, they used a black oxide coating, like bolts, instead of blueing.

That being said it’s the quality otherwise is amazing. Really well put together. Most accurate 1911 I’ve ever shot.

however, there is such a wide range of variety in 1911s. Not really a standard to compare it to.

Lever guns require hand fitting and I don't think Freedom Group understood or cared how critical that is and there was a lot of crappy manufacturing and machining being done on them after the manufacturing plant was moved, not to mention a lot of experienced employees were lost because of the move. They shot themselves in the foot because of their decision making and took the brand from a good quality product to poorly made garbage. Hopefully, Ruger will be able to resuscitate the brand and it's reputation.

Yes, 1911s require hand fitting as well. Remington has been making 1911s for a long time. So understands what is needed and why with them. They had been out of the lever gun business for a long time and had no built in experience with their existing employees before the buy and move of Marlin. Ruger was still making a lever gun when they bought Marlin from Remington. So, in theory, they should be able to pick up the mess and get it straight.

Finally get to pick up my Marlin tonight. I'm excited. Hopefully I can get to the range this weekend.

Finally got my hands on it tonight.... Worth the wait I believe.

Does anyone own a Henry's Mares Leg (44 mag specifically)?

If YES, a review please!!!

Thanks,
John

Another one followed me home recently... Or somehow got my FFL's address and shipped itself there.

I fully intend to kill a deer with this 1941 Winchester 94 30-30 this year.

I never knew a lever action (real) rifle was a real thing until I was watching yellowstone. I had seen lever action bb guns before but I just thought it was a bb gun thing, guess I should of known that a bb rifle would be based on something real. I grew up around dads .22 mossberg, quite possibly made in the ‘70’s.

Like every western has at least five... generally model 1892's reguardless of actual era. :icon_twisted:

But yeah, they came out before the civil war.
