1987 Ford Bronco II Can't get Fuel

> I have heard that the two parts of filter-less reservoirs are glued together.

I worked at a Ford dealer and never saw one glued together, with or without a filter. That is not to say the cover was not spun on so tight or fast that the plastic melted and welded together.

I had another mechanic/parts guy? that could not get the cover off on his FSB, I got it off, by putting in a table vise ad then using large channel locks or strap wrench (I forget) to open it.. It did take an extreme amount of force to open it and I thought it was going to break. After all that effect, it was empty.

JohnDough,

You say the you have verified that both pumps power up and have flow, both pumps have 12v supplied and none of the saftey circuits or sensors are stopping flow and you have 0 psi on the fuel rail.

If your fuel system works as you have described, disconnect the output of your hi pressure pump (the big pump located in the frame rail), when ignition power is on fuel should flow for 2-3 seconds.

Does this happen?

it does not flow at all. i know this pump is good because i pulled it off another truck that was just running 5 minutes ago.

Have you verified that the low pressure, intank lift pump is feeding the high pressure pump?

what’s the best way to go about verifying that? i mean when i unplug the input line from my in tank pump to the high pressure pump after turning the key a few times gas comes out.

Ok then sounds like thats working.

I see no reason why you shouldnt have fuel pressure.

Just for shits pinch off the return line going from the FPR back to the tank...see if you get pressure after doing that.

no, what i was saying in my last post is my in tank pump is sending fuel to my high pressure pump and when i unplug the fuel line that goes from my high pressure pump up to the frame rail filter that no fuel comes out but i still hear the high pressure pump kicking on.

Then the high pressure pump is bad? Im not sure if one can run and still not pump?

@RonD

i wish i knew. it’s two pumps in a row that have been doing it, the original new one i bought for my bronco and then the one i pulled off my 86 ranger that was running fine 5 minutes before i took it off to try on my bronco. i’m lost🤷🏼‍♂️

Unless you got a plugged/kinked line im out of ideas

I've tested frame rail pumps off vehicle by using diesel fuel. Two buckets, one with fuel and one empty. A ground and a 12 volt supply. It won't take long to see if its pumping.

Can they run and not pump? I dont think ive ever heard of that happening.

I would think a diaphragm in the pump could fail...maybe?

I would power up the in tank pump and check volume. Judging the way the fuel looks you could have a tank full of crud and it's restricting flow.

Plugged up fuel tank sock...
