HELP! Added Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner… Now my truck is not accelerating properly when pressing the gas.

I had another bottle of the cleaner and I opened it and gave it a smell. Definitely is the cleaner dripping down the side of the tank. But how would this happen without gasoline leaking as well? It is the exact feel, smell, and color of the injector cleaner. I have no clue what this would mean or if it would even be related to the acceleration issue? First and foremost I want to figure out how to fix the acceleration issue, I will try the fuel filter first. If this does not change anything what would be the next likely culprit?

any chance when you filled the tank up after the bottle of goop, you got bad gas and have some water in the tank?

Nothing from the goop would clog anything as said above.

Dont leave us hangin man lol. Did it run down the outside of the fill neck somehow and just puddle up at the bottom. I mean did it leak more after you wiped it off? Dont know what the weathers been like there, but with a lot of rain and old pump tanks - it could be water in the gas.

Brake fluid is a yellow oil that doesn’t smell like gasoline. It’s also the only fluid, other then gas, that is in there that area.

I wiped it off and havent seen anything since. I figured out it was the fuel injector cleaner I added but I’m stumped on how it came out where the filler neck connects to the fuel tank and gasoline didn’t… wasn’t anything on the filler neck. Had another bottle of injector cleaner and compared it, same color and smell as the stuff dripping down. Any thoughts on this?

I identified it to be the fuel injector cleaner I added in. Same color and smell. Stumped on how this leaked out and gasoline didn’t though. Nothing on the filler neck at all. Looks like it came from where the filler neck attaches to the fuel tank.

Any time you put an additive into your gas tank you should put the additive in first, then fill the tank with gas. This causes the gas to mix/dilute the additive so it doesn't have a chance to get sucked up nearly full strength into the fuel system. There's no way (that I can see) that the additive can leak out of the fuel tank or filler neck without gas leaking out also. You must have filled it up with gas, then the fuel treatment didn't have anywhere to go but overflow down the filler neck when you weren't paying attention.

It's either that, or like @Dirtman said; magical fairies. They can be worse than gremlins.

Lol I definitely should have added it first… and will watch to make sure no fuel is leaking when I fill up next (once I get my lovely transmission working right 🥲) If you have any trans info for A4LDs, I posted a thread under the trans section. And well hopefully those fairies will help me this time with fixing the trans while I change the Fluid and filter…

You may have a crack or hole in the filler, or top of the tank. Fuel goes in from the pump quickly so would pass the leak, the injector cleaner pours in slowly and would fall out of the leak. Or as stated, tank was already full and the little bit of injector cleaner was just enough to spill out of said crack/hole.

Either way I'd be inspecting the filler neck and top of the tank carefully. A smoke machine would be handy for this situation.

For replacing the filler neck do you need to remove the bed? If not I may try replacing it. If you do, I’ll wait for the fuel pump to fail on me lol!

Eh... It may be possible without removing the bed I'm not sure. Definitely easier when the bed is gone lol.

You know anything about the A4LD trannys? I posted a thread in the transmission section as mine is having some problems

You don't have to. You could drop the tank until you have access to the part where the filler neck attaches to the tank.. Pulling the bed would probably be easier when it's all said and done. If you don't have something like a transmission jack to raise and lower the tank.

The only reason to be polite enough to have friends is so you have someone to help you remove a bed...
