The Lightning Returns!

You laugh but my stupid fiesta is very peppy and handles pretty well. Putting it in "sport" mode and running around downtown Trenton can be quite fun. The transmission is awful but amazing at the same time, and the car is so light the small amount of power it does have can whip it around just fine. For 14 grand I have zero regrets. My ranger was only slightly less back in 2010 at around 13k. I will never spend over 20k on a new vehicle!

Little cars are a blast. I borrowed a buddys first gen yaris for a couple weeks awhile ago, 2 door hatch, manual.. suuuuuuper fun.

As to using my Lightning as a truck, FORGETABOUTITCLYDE! The bed is carpeted and has a hard cover over it. It's nothing but a giant trunk. Removed the tow hitch years ago. It's a garage-kept classic hot rod pickemup truck. Usually has a cover over it was well. Sees daylight maybe 2000 miles per year.

I wouldn't mind having a clean white first generation Lightning, 93 - 96. Passed on buying one back in 2013 or 14, white 93 with a Vortech blower set up. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, didn't. Dang it.

But this Thing they call a Lightning now? FORGETABOUTITCLYDE.

Oh yeah.

Forget about it, because it's clearly incapable of doing the absolutely nothing useful that you do with your current truck.

It'll be a real shame when one of the new ones leaves you in a pool of your own tears and embarrassment someday soon.

What will you talk about then? Decades of Al Bundy impressions harkening back to the good old days?

My sister had a Fiesta. You should've seen it after a minor fender bender accident! Totaled out. No thanks!

You outta check out the crash test of a 97-03 F-150...

I don't race anyone, so that'll never happen. I don't have it to prove it's the fastest vehicle on the road. It isn't. It's a near 5000 pound lead sled with a somewhat modified blown motor. There's a lot of imports that can blow it in the weeds. I keep it because I love the appearance, me and many other Lightning owners think the Lightning of 99 - 04 is the epitome of the F-150 as far as appearance is concerned. That thing about PRICELESS. Opening the garage door and just admiring what I've got: PRICELESS.

Mine has a stainless BORLA catback, rear two cats removed, Magnum Powers blower, too many other mods to mention. But when I drive it, it makes noise. That MP blower whines! And the Borla exhaust has a super nice sound. Driving a vehicle that makes no noise? I'd rather watch grass grow, paint dry, or a puddle of water evaporate.

That sounds like EXACTLY what this Lightning is made for.

I will take ya one farther. I do love the clean lines that body style has, it looks sporty, it looks tough, it looks like it is moving even when it isn't, it has a very ergonomical/comfortable cab. It is a polarizing generation to be sure, some miscreants will even make fun of them...

The Lightning itself doesn't do a whole lot for me but I do think highly about that generation of F-150. I guess I had better, I have been driving one daily since 2005...

I didn't know they made a Nite Bronco also, that is a sharp looking truck.
Same. I didn't know about the Bronco either. There is one in my City, but the guy said he bought it from a parts guy that worked at the Ford dealership, and that "this" one was just a clone, not an actual "Nite", but the same Raven Black paint and the Blue/purple stripe.

Miscreant here.. inserting opinion where its likely not wanted.. The best way to put the styling of that generation f150 is.. gopping. The generation before though.... 👌👌

Late 90s and early 00s were a horrible time for vehicle design.

I think the F series looked great until what 99? When they went from square to round. But when they ditched TTB on the F250s and went to solid axles it was definitely a time to rejoice especially for someone who works on plow trucks. Sorry TTB and snow plows go together like peanut butter and eggs.

92-96 looked good. Then the 150's were brutal until the '04 redesign.
