PLEASE HELP.....can't figure out why I have an intermittent rough idle!

Blocking off the iac will eliminate it's idle controlling function altogether. The iac on my 2.3 was getting "sticky" when the motor got warmed up. Sometimes it will idle normally (about 7-800) other times 2000. Since it still functioned intermittantly and wasn't completely stuck i unplugged it and set my warm engine idle to 800. This achieves the same thing as blocking it off and the motor will need a fast idle by way of your foot to stay running. This is okay for me because i'm used to driving my camaro w/o a choke assembly, and the truck has a five speed.

So either shell out the cash for a new motor or let it warm up before driving it. Either way, the truck should run fine

You mean new IAC valve right? Not a whole new 2.5? Thanks

OK HM, get a new hybrid, party is over!:icon_rofl:

Just kidding bro, hope you're on the road to recovery! :stirthepot:

Yeah, you need a 2.3 turbo.. lol jk yeah the idle airspeed motor

Possibly your O² sensor got messed up with the oil and other additives you been dumping in. Even with it running rough (rich) it might sooted up and giving bad data to the computer.

I have an old '88 Maxima with 242,000 miles on it that I changed out a lot of stuff like you did trying to track the uneven idling and running rough symptoms.

The car ran like crap until I finally cut out and soldered in new fuel injector pigtails that plug into the fuel injectors. They had built up a lot of that green corrosion over the years.

You might check those things if your Ranger has them.

From all of my experiences, the IAC and the DPFE are trouble prone on these motors. Unless he was having trouble with it running rich/lean, I wouldn't worry about the O2 sensor.

My truck has the same issue, although I know it's the IAC on that... (again) It sticks when it's cold.

Another thing, Hardwareman is doing it the right way, TESTING the sensors before replacement...too many people just replace stuff these days without having any idea what is going on.

Uber Rough

I have the same bumpy lumpy rough idle and my truck will stall when I am cruising on the highway. I can shove my foot on the gas all the way when I catch the rpms dropping to zero and this still doesn't recover my truck. I also have the 2.5L. I had the engine scanned recently and it took me to a bank one problem of 4 things, spark plugs, wires, O2 sensor, injectors. I replaced the plugs and wires, didn't really want to dig into the injectors (maybe I can just run some cleaner through them) but I did notice that my O2 sensor has basically been messed with before (I recently acquired the truck). The nut was stripped to nothing and the housing was damaged to say the least. Could an O2 sensor make it that bad? I did notice when I finally got the truck back home that when I opened the hood it was significantly hotter than normal. When I did the plugs and wires everything worked the same as before I did them and trust me these things needed replaced as some of the plugs no longer had tips on them.

Please help me out.
