I'm getting tired of the mud accumulators that are the factory mud flaps and I'm looking to do something different.

I'm thinking of using a flexible rubber mud flap, similar to a big rig style maybe. I have had the rigid mud flap be an issue.

Does anyone have pictures or experience doing a custom mud flap installation? Pics would be awesome. I'm also thinking about putting some in the front, though that isn't as important.

I have seen conveyer belt used to good effect.

Way back in the day I went by napa and bought ONE semi-trailer sized flap for like 12$ and used a razor to cut it into 4 flaps for an old subie I had..

Another thought, I've always like the idea of easily removable (Like big magnet holding it on.) flaps. Seems like that'd be handy for the offroading.

The bed I bought that came off a ‘96 2wd splash had rubber mud flaps.

Pretty cool because they say Ranger.

Someone here cut up a snowmobile track for mud flaps.

Google Long John Mud Flaps... not exactly semi truck flaps... but they create a flare and and flap. Seen them on several off road rigs.

Back when I first lifted the '90 I made some removable mudflaps as I didn't want attention... I went to the steel yard and got some small square tubing that fit inside eachother and made like 4x4 plates for the frame side to be bolted on as shown in this picture:

You'll also notice my failed trail fix from like 4 years before that... :). From there I made an L to go in that and go down under the rear fender and made a cross bar with the same tubing to center the flap behind the rear tires like this:

The picture is deceptive, they sit maybe 1/2" under the sheet metal. I made the flaps themselves out of 1/2 of a semi mud flap, held to the tube with 3 or 4 1/4" bolts.

Then again there's the stock flaps they used in the '90's like my '97 has, front and rear. The front ones are kinda janky as both are bent up pretty good, the brackets are just made out of like 3/16" steel rod with I think 2 bolts holding them on at random points. Rear are mounted to the bed and haven't looked too deep into them as they just work but I've had to weld or bend on both of the front ones...
