Allow me to add to the confirmation of this theory...

If I want to build a 306, I take a 302 and bore it .030 over. Yes, That would only remove a small amount of metal but it’s also a small increase in displacement. So, according to our current hypothesis, a larger displacement would require even more metal to be removed making the engine even lighter.


How much displacement can an engine have before it's all air?

The new 7.3 BBF must be very light. No need for an engine hoist because and anemic child could carry it.
 
For some reason, it's not a linear correlation. It's more of a magical automotive logarithmic scale.

Well this engine is in a ship and ships float. If it was heavy, the ship would sink.

So an engine can still have mass without weight?

So the weight correlates to the displacement, and mass is irrelevant?

At what point does an engine become buoyant in the atmosphere?

Back on subject... the 300 i6 is a great motor. I like it but the trouble with swapping one in is the length. A 302 fits much nicer. Heck if you have a body lift a 302 looks small in there.

The 300 block is only like 2" longer then the 302 block.
 
Apologies, I was comparing a naked 300 to a dressed 302.

300 is still the best option regardless of logic.

@rusty ol ranger help me out with this.
In a ranger? As much as it pains me to say it, no, a 302 is a better option....however a 351W will always be king.

Now...in an F150...302 or 300....give me a 300 every single time. infact, the 300 is, in my opinion, one of the best engines ever. The only F series engine that, once again, my opinion even comes close is the 400.

Length is the killer, even 302 swaps can struggle with being too long.

I had the long water pump starting off, I had to pull the grille to pull the efan to pull the radiator to get the pivot bolt out to change the alternator. That was revisited and rectified ASAP.

Right now it has the Explorer belt system on it which is the shortest one Ford made... and not on the 1985 truck builder's chart.
