Driveshaft Phase?

I threw a new output shaft bearing at it right before the roundup last year to no effect. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe try throwing something a bit bigger at it... and a few cuss words too?

Wouldn't hurt a damn thing at this point... just sayin

Stop throwing things at it... you probably bent something and caused the vibration.

5.0 exploders have that 5th shock for a damper.

They also have traction bars on top of the axle tube to the frame rail just above the front spring hanger, they threw all sorts of goofy things at those things, like stupid air shocks and softer leaf springs (I think, haven't looked at the two I have with air shocks compared to the Mountaineer without), I'm thinking that's the case since my '00 gets a "Check Susp" light with a cooler and 3 dudes and a little gear... the shocks are shot...

I have a big counterbalance thing off a first gen Ex that goes where the third shock goes on the second gens. I was going to stick it on and see if I could tell a difference or not.

When I pulled my 8.8 out of a '96 V6 Explorer it had the third shock.

I think the third shock is more of a "how many options does this version have" thing like the air shocks, there's LOTS of different setups, the Eddie Bauer has a knob for suspension height and 4 wheel air shocks, the Limited just has the rear air shocks and I think the Mountaineer doesn't have any of that, doesn't even have an info display in the center console...

Maybe take it to a driveline shop and have it re balanced?

Or get another one.

I would love to get a new one, I probably will at some point.

It is hard to find good rear driveshafts to shorten, they all get crunched when yards move vehicles with payloaders. The truck I got this driveshaft out of apparently was over somebody's budget to repair, transmission/tcase were sitting in the back of the truck with the driveshafts. That is the only reason it survived.

And apparently it is even harder to find someone to shorten one...

All true unfortunately....

I found my driveshaft on ebay. It was cheap, straight and true, just rusty and needing u joints, I got lucky.

There is one driveline shop out here, and they are probably an hour or so from my town. And pretty much everyone between here (los angeles) and there (orange county) uses them.
