The Flu isn't going any where, there will be more "spikes"/outbreaks that's just the way it works, always has, always will
But that being said I do think the reduced contact has slowed down the spread, but there will be more outbreaks
The "herd immunity" England considered and Sweden is trying didn't cause the massive up tick in cases that scientist predicted it would, but still early days for Sweden, their tourist season is in the summer not winter.
It does look like once you get it and then fight it off you are immune, the re-occurrence in some seems to be they didn't actually beat it the first time around, false negative test, so get symptoms back a few days to a week later, and then they are clear once symptoms are gone again
So the ones that are getting it now, with mild symptoms, will not be able to spread it as things get more relaxed so way safer to be out and about when virus can't spread in 100% of the population
I think about 40% of the adult population gets an annual Flu shot and that really slows down the spread of the Flu
So the higher the percentage of "the herd" that can't spread a disease the better, I know DUH
But that's the reasoning for Sweden's decision and why getting our business's back open slowly is not as risky as you may think
In 2017-2018 CDC estimated 61,000 Flu associated deaths in the US, there were closer to 80,000 deaths, worst in last 40 years, this year may eclipse that, at 23,000 now, but I think thats JUST Covid-19, not regular Flu?
So people will still die from the Flu regardless of social distancing, the point of that is to spread out the infections so everyone could get best health care available, there are finite resources for medical care where ever you live
So its never been about "stopping it", its about spreading it out over time
You WILL get covid-19, hopefully it will be mild
If you are older, like me, that is worrisome, but hopefully there will be a Flu shot coming around sooner than later
