I have a line on a 1988 ranger 2wd that is fuel injected. I currently drive a 1983 ranger with carb. How hard of a conversion would it be, if possible, to pull off the 88 onto the 83? Thanks ahead of time.

Which engines do you have? 2.3, 2.8, 2.9?

Either way, you'll need to swap the engine wiring harness, computer, fuel lines, fuel pump, etc.

There is no mention of what engine you have and that is really the main thing here. For example you cannot simply use fuel injection components from a 1988 2.3 on a 1983 2.8. But you could replace a 2.8 with a 2.9, or a carb 2.0/2.3 could be replaced with an EFI 2.3 or converted. More info please.

Why not just drive the 88?

Sorry guys I guess you cannot read my mind , that’s what I get for being in a hurry. The 88 is a 2.0, the 83 is a 2.3 L

Both should be carb.

If youre dead set on keeping the 2.3 there are thousands of them in junkyards with EFI. Itd be a pain though to swap over to it, not worth the effort imo.

A 2.0 truck in 1988 would have a carburetor, from the factory.

A 2.3 truck in 1988 would be fuel injected.

2.0 and 2.3's are essentially the same block - if you're sure the '88 had a 2.0 originally, it's possible that someone converted it to fuel injection or simply replaced it with a 2.3.

I think I got some clarification. I looked at some more pics and it looks like the 88 is in fact the 2.3 not the 2.0 I was originally told, and it does have EFI.
