I have a 58 Austin Healey Bugeye I am hoping to put a 2.5 4cyl in. I have lots of questions and this seemed like a great place to come for help as well as maybe give help when I can.
So far I have a T5 from a Fox body Stang, but no engine yet. I have read the Mazda 2.5 L is a better starting point then the ford version. If anybody can quide me to an old thread discussing this that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance and thanks for having me on your great forum.

I'm currently rounding up parts (and ambition) to put a Fusion 2.5 in a 2005 Ranger.
the 2.5 Duratec in North American cars is a front wheel drive only configuration, have variable intake cam gears, and drive by wire. found in both Mazdas and Fusions. Fusion engines are cheap and plentiful. the rest of the world can get that engine in a rear drive Ranger. the biggest difference is the intake manifold and front timing cover. the intake ports are larger on a 2.5, so the 2.3 intake does not line up without adapters. fwd engines have the intake going low and beside the engine, rwd goes up above the valve cover. fwd engines have no provision for the mechanical cooling fan.
if you swap out the 2.5 variable intake cam/sprocket some oil passages need blocked off.
oil pans are different, 2.5 has a deep pan with a huge balance assembly.

there is lots of info on Mazda sites about swapping the 2.5 engine.

oops, I should have looked at the 4 banger forum first.

What about just putting a Ranger 2.3 head on a 2.5 and then porting the head?
