i need to know all the sensors that will make the overdrive engage. so far ive replaced the tps because it was jumping around. also replace the vss because it wasnt in range.

my overdrive on my 92 explorer isnt always engaging. its intermittent. so im just going through all the sensors and making sure they are working correctly. so if you could please write me a list of every possible sensor that sends the signal to engage the od. thx

TPS, VSS, Trans Range, can't think of anything else on a 92.

You still have the shift solenoid, it's wires, the computer itself, and the internals of the trans that physically engage the OD to consider.

ok thx. yeah i just want to start with the sensors first. checking the wires and connectors as i go. once ive confirmed they are all in good working condition ill move to the harder stuff.

replaced the abs wheel speed sensor today. theres no real test to prove if its good or bad. but it was only 15 bucks. so i didnt see any harm by replacing it. the bad thing was it didnt fix my problem.

is there a test for the range sensor. if not how do you tell if it isnt working, obviously by the overdrive not working, but what else would come from it not working

The TR sensor is just a series of resistors, certain resistances mean certain things to the computer.

I don't have the book here in front of me to see what the specs should be.

i hate reading, but i did it anyways. i found a post of a similar problem. he was having a intermittent od issue. he rebuilt his and discovered that his band adjustment was wrong. and since i havent got a clue what the history of this car is. it could be possible that somebody messed with the bands. maybe they thought it had double wrap bands. this is a mid year a4ld. ill do a band adjustment and drive it to see if it solves my issue

ok i did the adjustment on the bands. it did make a difference. now at 55 it will engage overdrive. but if i hit the bakes it will of course dis-engage but wont re-engage again til i come to a complete stop and get up to speed again. i can feel it trying to engage around 40 or 45 but just wont do it.

what else can i do

Hello could i have the Part numbers for the TPS,VSS,TRANS-RANGE please and where is the best/affordable place to get them.
Thanks

rockauto sells good parts. but if you want the best just get it from ford.
