So I've been able to get started on rebuilding the 5.0 that'll be going into my Ranger. This is going to be a heck of a slow moving project, so updates are going to be few and far between.

Recently I was able to tear down the 302, and now I've got a bare block. A bare block with a problem. Rust. It looks like its mostly surface rust on the cylinder walls, so I'm gonna have it bored out probably .030 over, and hope like hell that it takes care of it. Looking to order the rebuild kit from Northern Auto Parts soon, then I'll get to work on collecting all the other parts I'm after.

Anyway, I know everyone likes pics...so I got a few!

and just for chits and giggles, heres a pic of the Ranger it'll be going in when all is said and done (I'll have the body fixed by then, too :headbang: )

Yeah, everyone knows decals add 20hp a piece :tease:

:icon_rofl:

hahaha

Actually that was a Deer that did that. Was goin down a backroad at 55mph about a year and a half ago and the thing jumped out of the weeds and I smacked it with the front of the truck. Surprisingly the grille and the left corner lens were the only things that got messed up. I replaced the corner lens last year.... just been too lazy to shell out $169.93 at the Ford Parts Store to get a new grille.

I smashed my grill up really bad about a year ago and I got a new center section for about 70 bucks from USAutoparts.com. As for that block, a trip to the machine shop should take care of it. Make sure they use torque plates when they're boring it. If they don't, take the block and your business elsewhere. What did that block come out of?

Hmm.. deer hit my brothers Nissan going about 60 down a highway, head hit the light and messed it up, then the body kind of folded and rolled down the side of the truck denting the whole drivers side.

Thats a nasty one, I got lucky with mine. The deer just kind of rebounded off the front of the truck (think ping-pong ball....seriously) and ended up about 20 feet down the road in someone's gravel driveway.

Red85, I believe they use torque plates. I'll make sure to ask em about it before I actually hand it over to them. And I believe the block came out of an '84 Crown Vic. The guy I bought it from is dead certain that is an '84 casting, and he was 90% sure that it came out of a Crown Vic.....if I knew where the casting numbers are, I'd look it up.

doesn't look that rusty to me...or are you just referring to the engine?

I'm referring mostly to the engine, but the underside of my Ranger has got some decent surface rusting going on too.

Its not as bad as alot of other trucks I've seen, but its more than I'd like. Not a big fan of the rust =p

If you owned my truck, Rust would be a daily serving
If you owned my truck, Rust wouldnt be anything new
If you owned my truck, Rust wouldnt be anything to complain about
If you owned my truck, You would dig rust and body damage
If you owned my truck, You would know rust isnt as bad as it seems

What im basically trying to say is that your truck isnt too bad rust wise

P.S. If you owned my truck, you would hate yourself!

Hes not talking about the truck, hes talking about the engine mostly.

Yeah, not complaining too much about the underbody rust, its not too bad. Rust-Bucket mainly refers to the 5.0.

I didn't do the exhaust tips myself, thats one of few things I haven't learned yet, welding. Went to a small exhaust shop back in Missouri to have the exhaust work done. In the pic I posted of my truck (first post), there is a second tip behind the first one, but its not exactly visible from that angle.
