2000 16x7 wheel issues , need some help!

hi picked up a set of 2000 16" 4x4 stock ranger wheels w/ some nice 265"s on them. my truck is a 97 xlt 2wd , just out in the garage and started mounting but looking at the back of the 4x4 wheel and there is a raised ridge directly around the hub bore and another raised ridge at the outermost contact point also , my stock 2wd rims that are coming off the truck are totally flat no ridge on the mounting surface area just small recesses around lug holes , the new wheels are mounting up and snugging up just fine but i'm concerned that basically the contact points to the rotor are the 2 raised ridges vs having the whole hub area seated against the mounting surface on the rotor and drum. the way there seating has me wondering , a yea or nay on this would be greatly appreciated , did a search on here and couldn't find much info , thanks all

torqued everything down and took it for a quick couple mile drive no shaking or anything weird going on so it seems ok but my my 16 yr old is getting his license and it's going to be his first truck so just want piece of mind that it's safe ( got enough to worry about w/ him driving never mind a wheel falling off:icon_cheers:

I do believe you'll be fine with the 16s. Even if they just ride on this ridges, as long as they pull up snug to the hub and aren't doing anything weird I'd roll with them.

wheels

4x4 have the ridge because they ride on hubs that have a inner recess and the out side hub diameter of the hub fits in side the outer ring, you have drums and rotors so there not seated properly and will tend to come lose or even crack for lack of surface contact and having a stress points at the lug nuts, theres a reason you have to have full contact its called safety, pull them off and take a alloy draw file and remove the ridges use duct tape to protect the flat areas

I stand corrected.

so die grinder on the raised ridges , inner one will be easy but that out one has some meat to it , any body ever done this before successfully.

Grab a picture. I wouldn't be grinding anything. It doesnr sound like an issue to me at all.

I wouldn't be grinding on the wheels either.

Think about this, yes the rim might be recesses to accommodate a 4x4 hub lockout hub on the FRONT axle. There is no 4x4 hub on the rear, and the drums are the same flat surface 2wd or 4x4. When have you ever hear of the rear wheels of a 4x4 breaking or falling off?

that does make sense i just found a post and it looks like this guy did the same thing w/ no mods , i really wouldn't be to concerned if it was me driving it but my sons who's going to be a new driver is going to be behind the wheel and just want to be sure its ok)

The correction I stood for, I hereby disregard and reaffirm my original statement on the issue.
