PlumCrazy's Build

Cut all the unneeded inner structure out of the bedside last night. I drilled the spot welds around the back and around the wheel arch.

No wonder these rot out....foam and pockets to hold moisture and salt...

Did a quick test fit.

I need to cut off the old step front mounts and make something different since they stick out too far.

I dont want to commit to attaching anything until I can sit the bed on the truck.

That's not nice....

Im just adding rub rails to keep the top of the bedsides away from stuff, that's only thing I seem to hit anyways..lol

Trimmed a little more off the lower rear supports and cut the front steps off.

Got the top rails bolted down, I picked up some stainless M6 truss heads.

I still want to brace the front corners and add a lower front attachment point, but other than that, I just need to add sliders and sling paint.

Need to get another bedside side and hang it on the driver side before start mounting up this side.

I think I will weld up the stake pocket holes too.

Once I get it set on the truck I can start redesigning my headache rack mounts and mounting the OBA setup.

The front of the new bed side needs to be moved in 1/64 of a inch, it's too wide :)

posted with a broken board and a few bloody splinters.

Im not a body man by any means.lol

But I did get the stake pockets welded up so the top will sit right on the rail.

I punched in all the holes on top, added a bracket above where tge step used to be, and cut off what I didn't need.

I need to make braces from the bottom corners of the wheel wells and punch some mounting holes by the tail light.

Then its time for mocking up the slider and doing the drivers side.

Im also in the middle if rebuilding my trans.... again. Im pretty sure the input or output is twisted.

I tore down my first hybrid trans prototype for parts and found what killed it. There was RTV plugging the hole where the oil feeds into the slinger for the pocket bearing.

The nose of the output felt like 60 grit sand paper and had flat spots.....

I wonder what my current one looks like...

Like most of my projects....I was going to slowly gather parts and build it down the road...

Im to the point now that I just want to see it on the truck.lol

After the Stillwell trip I'll probably pull my bed and sit this biotch on there. There are a lot of little things to do once its built. Mount up my OBA box and punch holes for lines, remote terminals (may ditch those now that I have the plugs) cut hole for stack, narrow my gate and bumper, sliders, flares, paint, redesign my rack.....

That's the best way if you work for a living to support a family. I buy and stash parts for what seems like forever. Put it together and then install it on the bronco.
