Hey all I have a 85 ranger 5sp with a rebuilt 2.8L that i had bored .030 with the biggest cam summit carried, a holly 350 2bl carb and dual 2.5in exhaust. I have already put a 6in lift on and I'm planing on doing a d30 sas on my ranger sometime soon and was wanting some more ideas on what and how to go about it. I want to get a d30 out of a Cherokee so i can keep my coil springs. I'm just needing some idea of how it will all fit in and what kind of fabricating i will need to do. I've been researching as much as I can but just want some more opinions and ideas on it. Thanks

Take a look at my d30 SAS, link is in my sig.

And you don't want to use your ttb coils, you will bust your teeth out on every bump.

95-99 cherokee d30 is idea... high pinion, no CAD, larger u-joint shafts....

get some XJ coils... get some XJ radius y-link arms, similar to the Rusty's are Ironman Fab or make a custom set or do a 3-link. I like the Rusty's arms, Rough Country could make you a better deal money wise tho..call and ask for Ryan at the Dyersburg, TN office.

get an adjustable cherokee track bar.. RC could hook you up with this to.

you can actually do this swap with very minimal fab if you buy into ballistic fab brackets and stuff from RC or Rusty's

when it comes down to steering; at least get V8 jeep zj steering, it's a lot stronger than the tiny stock steering from the regular xj.

Yes, your average lift coil for a TTb ranger is 420 in/lbs or stiffer.....you average XJ coil is around 225ish in/lbs.

BIGGGG difference!

there's a reason us TTB guys use EB coils and sometimes XJ coils. :icon_thumby:

Alright how much lift will stock xj coils give me? I'm a little new to some of the abbreviations so what does EB stand for?

Early Bronco ('66-'77).

Some guys also use "EB" for Eddie Bauer (as in an "EB BII" or "EB Explorer"), but that's not applicable here.

stock XJ(cherokee) coils won't work... you HAVE to have lift b/c of the crossmember even if you trim it down. I think the common thing is 3-4" XJ coils.

Read over Escorts_gts's builds (he has 2 actually, his 89 ranger and his current ranger) and dangerranger83's

Ok so is there a way to figure out how big of lift coils I will need to get to the 6in of lift I have now

Yes. Math.
I'll try to edit this post with the info on it.
It's a somewhat simple equation if you know the free length and PPI of coils and the weight of each corner of the front of your truck. Otherwise it's trail and error or google/TRS search and see what others have done for what amount of lift.

Just remember every coil spring will have different spring rates (PPI) even if for the same application depending on brand and all.

Of course with solid axles you use 1:1 ratio instead of the 1:1.5.

I used rustys 6.5 xj lift coils for mine that have 180ppi and got 5 inches of lift. I could lower my coil buckets for more of i wanted, but i like the rake it has.
