Ive got a '99 ranger that i want to strait axle sometime in the near future. just to be sure. the only thing i need is the axle itself right?

And a steering box at the least, some people like Toyota boxes. Spend a little time searching around here, quite a few members have done solid axle conversions on IFS trucks.

Just the axle itself if you are dropping it off a shop to have the work done...

Other wise you have a ton of searching and learning ahead of yourself.

why couldn't i use the stock power steering?

You need:

Axle (WITH matching gear ratio)
Radius arms/leaf springs (depending on which way you go on the suspension)
Steel
Welder
Fabrication experience
Imagination
Steering box (78/79 F150, 'yota, or RBV to 1997)

Yep. Just need an axle and some pixy dust to sprinkle on it. Say a few magic words and the Fairy Godmother will do the rest.

Its that simple.

Lol, that sounds so much like one of my responses nowadays.

I know when I first started learning about 4wd I saw people talking about the SAS and I was like "oooo what is that?" The first thing I learned is that I had no business attempting it. I understand why we tend to discourage the swap. 3 years later I'm doing it :)

I just shattered my phone screen, so I am in a shitty mood. So my responses may come off a bit cocky for the next few hours/days.lol

No worries, if you start being a dick I'll be sure to call you out on it :) I see you got a new avatar. Looks pretty sweet as always. Is that with the jeep coils you were looking for?

SAS List:

a straight axle, some beer, duct tape, 3 or 4 sticks of hot glue, 17-39 popsicle sticks (depending on desired lift height), 4 crayons (make sure they're all secondary colors), 2 commercial sized buckets of elmers glue, 2 boxes of raisan bran, an orange, four #2 pencils and a jar of mayonaise

Yup. 6.5" XJ coils 190ppi. Dropped the ride height 3" up front and almost 2" in the rear.

Is that 2 boxes of real Raisin Bran or can he save a little and buy the store brand?
