Jeep Cherokee coil questions.

Looking to gain some extra flex out of my TTB suspension by doing the cherokee coil swap. I have a 2.5" leveling coil kit from Rough Country in front for suspension lift.


I found a set of "HD" 3" lift Cherokee coils on Rusty's Offroad, but it doesnt say what the PPI of the spring is.

What lift cherokee coils will I need to gain the proper amount of lift I'm searching for?

Well found the tech article finally. Dunno why I couldnt find it before.

Says a cherokee coil is 240 PPI and vs. a 400 PPI skyjacker coil. If I did my math correctly (400/240=1.67) the ranger coils are 1.67 times stiffer. So if I take the 1.67x2.5 inches of lift I already have, I come up with 4.175.

So it looks like I need a 4" cherokee lift coil.

Does this math look right?

Hey I used the Cherokee springs they were 240 ppi and netted a jeep around 3 to 4 inches of lift depending on what engine they use. I had a 4 inch lift when I installed them and I lost about 3 inches of lift with the coils. here are a few pics after the instal:

Looks like you need 6" XJ coils on that (my Skyjacker 6" XJ coils netted about 5" under my BII, which should be a little lighter than your Ranger).

XJ coils might be too soft for a Supercab truck though, I'd look for early Bronco coils with a Supercab (something around 280-320PPI).

at 140, 6 in coils get me bout 3 in with 1 to 2 in pivot drop..23.5 free length

with 4 in drop brackets 6-8 in coils are needed along with some angled seats to control coil bow. i suggest to use air springs to tune for street ride. works killer.




with drop pivot brackets steering will have to be addressed

stock steering usually suck em down like that when you move them with pivot drops

4 in springs with some seat shims will be pretty flexy and net an inch or two. air spring inserts will give it tun-ability for the road

stock steering usually suck em down like that when you move them with pivot drops

T'is true, if your steering angle is not lined up properly, the resulting bumpsteer (change in toe) can cause the whole suspension to do some pretty crazy things once you've gotten rid of the rock-stiff TTB coils that were restricting it from moving.
