Koty's 91 Ranger Build Thread

cough... doubler ahem! or better yet both a v8 and tires.

i have plenty of low end torque for the time being. i just need more ass for road and highway speeds.

Looks good! I'm doing something similar to you. But your build is inspiring me to go work on my truck! lol

I wasn't criticizing I was just stating that most people thing you need more engine when in reality you don't. There are plenty of crawlers with 4 and 6 cylinders.

And I don't go back and read through every post before I say anything and I can guarantee most people don't so:thefinger:

Good looking rig, but you defiantly need some more tire....and a bigger engine :P

a few quirks, and the engine are my main concerns right now. my 33s still have good tread and will do fine for a lot of things around here. once everything else is good i plan on deleting the body lift (or at least some of it) and running 35s or so.

Thanks! And go work on it then haha. Its too cold and windy here today to do my brakes and pinion seal.

real update: week or two ago i messed up my tranny when i lost my brakes. went to jam it in first to gear down and it down and grinded the heck outta it. it works, but its really loose in all the gears now, and when i let it coast in gear, i makes a lot of winding noise. anything i can check without tearing it down or replacing parts or the whole thing?

also both my pinion seals are leaking, hoping to replace the pinion seal by this weekend on the rear which is leaking more heavily. the front only leaks enough to lightly coat the outide of the axle housing in that area. although it is saving me alot of gas money by not driving it for like a week lol

sounds like the v8 swap is getting more and more worthwhile

I cram mine into 1st gear all the time then let off the clutch and sqaull the rear tires on dry pavement. Tells me my clutch grips perfectly, my 7.5 is somehow still alive and not giving up anytime soon, and the TK trannies dont give up without a fight. How I havent broken anything yet Im not sure doing this but it will catch up with me sooner or later.

As far as the seals, i replaced mine and they quit leaking............for a week then started up again but not nearly as bad as they were, use to drip on the driveway and doesnt now. I greased around where the yoke comes in contact with the seal and whatnot but oh well, my swap is comming soon.

found out my noise while coasting wasnt transmission related and my pinion seal wasnt bad. the pinion nut had backed off for some reason and the backlash was all screwed causing a noise and then creating a gap for a leak. its all good though, i caught it early.

think i found why my brakes have been spongy. finally tore the rear drums off saturday and the passenger side had a spring pop loose, which caused it to grenade and basically destroy everything brake related on that side except a few parts.

this is what fell out when i removed the passenger drum.

everybody decided to go wheeling the weekend after i go to georgia, 8 hrs from home! anyhow, been trying to get some prices on tubing for sliders from my buddys shop. but he hasnt been in a hurry. i just hope maybe he can get it for his employee pricing.

also got a guy trying to sell me 4 half tread and 1 full tread 36x12.50 grooved tsl's. but he is in quite a hurry and i wont be home til next week. i would also have to sell my 33s on there first to help fund them. they are for a fairly decent price, but just doesnt look like its gonna work out for me this time.

cant wait to get home and get my brakes rebuilt and get her off the jackstands. at least i dont gotta worry about anybody taking it while im gone haha :icon_thumby:

Back in VA and got all my brake parts. Gonna rebuild them tomorrow then test it on some mild trails.

well tested it out. brakes are better but still quirky. after we went mudding and playing on some rocks and trails, my steering and brakes were acting worse. tore it down last night and had a lot of play in my drivers side rotor. i tore the inner wheel bearing completely out! only thing left was the base, which was all chewed up. gonna get the parts for that tonight and fix that
