Mine didnt have that spot on the axle (PO cut it off for a higher up trackbar mount) but made one like what was from the factory but used thicker metal for it and dont see it wollowing out on me.

Wonder if just simply plating over it would help with that problem.

Im running all factory XJ setup and my link points (pitman arm and frame trackbar mount) arent on the same piviot point so they ddnt do that frome the factory either. I got mine as close as I could get them to parallel and I have very very little bump steer, almost none I want to say.
 
I didnt use a crossmember for where I bolted my arms to my frame and have been rocking my truck that way for over a year now. I dont know how strong the frames are on later trucks so you may have to make one depending on that.

As for the trackbar mount and using the XJ TRE mount, I do agree it can wollow out but if you use a tapered fitting for the TRE, it wont wollow out on you, its just like a TRE fitting on a steering knuckle. The only problem i had was I didnt tighten the TRE enough on mine and thats how I got a DW from it. Once I fixed that I havent had once since and she drives like a charm.

I do plan on going with upgraded bushing and maybe getting rid of my TRE trackbar, but I will see about all of that after my v8 swap. this spring/summer.
My frame is boxed, but still we will make a crossmember for the arms.
reinfore the frame with 1/4" and then bolt on a 3/4 crossmember
In happy ideal land, the track bar, and the drag link are the same length, run parallel to each other, and have the same piviot point as well. Since its pretty much impossible to make that happen due to space constraints, You'll need to:

1) Make is as parallel as possible to the drag link at ride height (The further from parallel you are, the more bump steer you'll get).

2) Make the bar as close to the same lenght as the drag link.



I was referring to the bolt that is being used to attach the track bar to the axle. That hole on the bracket has a tendency to walloy out (elongate) over time. Easy to fix, just something to check that can be overlooked during the build process. The TRE side of things usually isn't a problem so long as you don't overextend that joint, or just let it get sloppy.
got it, and we will make a better bracket for that bolt, since we will move the trac bar to get the best lenght for it.
my cousin is thinking about a way to improve that TRE position a bit.

He came with an idea to fix the issue of the "twist" motion on the arms.
he said that the only heim style joints he has seen are from tractor supplies, and those arent serviceable.

So he came up with an idea on how to make the arms have that movement without a heim.
sure it will need 1 more bushing per arm, but at least it will have better movement.

Im trying to go out for a while, i feel like i need some fresh air.
so later ill make a diagram on what he came with. so i can explain it better.
 
Well this is the idea we have in mind to mount the arms without using heim style joints, because i cant find them around here.

Instead of mouting the upper bushing straight to the frame, it will mount bolted to another plate with a bushing.
that way the furst bushing will allow up and down movement, and the second bushing will allow rotation.

Why don't you fab up a d44 style radius arm? They use bushings. Forgive me if this has already been discussed but I was just wondering.

Anyone has pics of a side mouned tire on the bed?
My current spare is a 225/70 on a 15x6 rim, needless to say, its too small.
i have a fairly good 30" from my old tires that i want to use a s a spare.
The other day i saw a Ranger with a bodylift and a big tire under the bed, i guess it was either 30 or 31. The 30 could fit, but it looks horrible., and even worst with a bodylift.
i wanna mount it like this:

So anyone has a good home made securing device? i really dont want to use a chain.
I was thinking about welding something to the rollbar plate to secure the tire, remember Im in Honduras, so it has to be thief proof hahaha.

In those cases where i need all the bed space, ill tuck it under the bed :icon_idea:
thats why im using a 30 instead of a 31. i had a 235/75 under there for a while, so it shoult fit.

sounds like someone allready posted it but in this months petersons they did a write up on a "hardware store" tire carrier. using only parts and minimal tools available at a hardware store hence the name

I agree with these guys. RSH I can get you some pictures of different angles of the radius arms/bushings/mounts on my D44 under my '79 for you today.
