Ranger Sport Honduras official build thread

Coils sould work where they are at on the D30. Last D30 SAS I saw on a 98+ ranger they build custom buckets/shock towers for them and used Skyjacker coils along with the factory TRE track bar. Do you plan on using the D30 factory track bar or going after market on that? Im currently using the factory one with no problems but will go aftermarket sooner or later.

Dont forget to get a steering box too. Some use the ranger ones, 83-97 all are the same, or use a toyota ones.

Past the point of no return now. Keep us updated.

I believe mine will be the first D30 SAS on a coil sprung 98+ 2wd.
ive seen it done in 98+ 4wds, and those have a straight frame, mine has the built in buckets, so instead of messing those, ill mess the axle.
ill be using stock XJ for everything, i cant get aftermarket here, and for 31"s it will be enough.
im using a Ranger steering box from a 87

Yeah, i wont have work done at the speed i want, but ill be updating.

Looks good man. What kind of beer is that?

Its called Barena. its a local beer. not bad.
a bit close to Corona.

Anyone has pics of a side mouned tire on the bed?
My current spare is a 225/70 on a 15x6 rim, needless to say, its too small.
i have a fairly good 30" from my old tires that i want to use a s a spare.
The other day i saw a Ranger with a bodylift and a big tire under the bed, i guess it was either 30 or 31. The 30 could fit, but it looks horrible., and even worst with a bodylift.
i wanna mount it like this:

So anyone has a good home made securing device? i really dont want to use a chain.
I was thinking about welding something to the rollbar plate to secure the tire, remember Im in Honduras, so it has to be thief proof hahaha.

In those cases where i need all the bed space, ill tuck it under the bed :icon_idea:
thats why im using a 30 instead of a 31. i had a 235/75 under there for a while, so it shoult fit.

I welded a cross bar to my roll bar, then mounted the stock spare mount that was originally mounted to the basket thing that came on my 88. You have the winch spare mount just like my 99, so you'd have to come up with something different.

You could probably find a piece of pipe that fits through the wheel and weld it to a crossbar, then drill at least one hole through the cross bar and thread so you can put a bolt through one of the lug holes.

If you want it secured, drill another hole through the pipe the tire sits on so it can't be slid off if you put a lock through it.

That's a 31x10.5 in the pictures.

Hey, That's-a me!

Hope that info I gave you from the March 2012 Peterson's comes in handy!

lol yeah thanks for jhammel for the pic he provided.
yeah ill use a bit of both infos to make mine.

Yeah man..I'll post up what I end up doing and I'll be looking forward to see what you do.

Finally the part I have been waiting for. Please take lot of pics. I want to do this, but I was leaning toward going with leaf springs. I'm really interested in seeing how you do the coils.

Yeah, at first i was going with leafs because of that detail.
but seems like it would need some small work on the axle coil bases to mount them and that way i wont have to mess the buitl in coil buckets on the frame.

dont worry ill take lots of pics. :icon_thumby:

sounds like someone allready posted it but in this months petersons they did a write up on a "hardware store" tire carrier. using only parts and minimal tools available at a hardware store hence the name

moving to coils in 2'' will most likely make it flex a little better but be a little less stable on the road. and if your using the factory trac-bar i would use caution that you dont overextend the ballstud. repeated overextending will likely lead to ill handling and death wobble.

with pics of some of the built trucks down there if overextending becomes an issue it shouldnt be that hard to whip somthing together that wont bind.
