So I'm curious. I've seen it posted, and have been told in an email, but who here (if anyone) had gone to a Ford dealership shopping for a new Ford Ranger and were being directed towards an F-150 instead?
Ford killed off the Ranger because the new global Ranger would compete to closely with it here in North America. It also took away jobs when it closed the last Ranger plant.
Ford says that sales declined and there was a decline in the small truck market, but sales of the Ranger peaked at 348,358 in 1999 (one year after the final major design change) and then declined do to lack of updates. Still, the truck sold really well considering the cab and bed were basically unchanged since 1993 (interior since 1994).
