Is it peltier [computer] coolers that change heat into electricity?

Richard

Peltiers use an electric current to draw heat from one side of a plate to the other side. So in use its placed between the CPU and cooling block to pull more heat out than would normally flow. It must have a cooling system attached to the hot side otherwise the whole thing will heat up and roast your CPU

He'll tell you steps on how to construct a whole new light using duck feathers, fiberglass, and a single rubberband! Ha.

I'd just buy a new one :-P

lol

yeah, i'm getting new ones off ebay, but these ones still work fine, so i figure if i can make the lens look decent again, i can probably sell them for a small amount of money...

i found some smoke lens covers that i could stick on them, but idk how well it would work...

the way i always look at it this...

making stuff from scratch is an expensive, labour intensive process.
if something is available from a manufacturer,it's folly to attempt to make it.
things that are not available from a manufacturer,on the other hand, must be made if they are to be had.the cost must be borne or do without.

very true...

i don't care what the rest of them are saying, you ARE a wise man! :)

After about about a week or so of reading this thread in between work and life, I've finally caught up to present... and I'm speechless. This is such an incredible build. I have no idea how you manage to build something like this, or your ranger for that matter, but man does it make me want to mod my Ranger more. Amazing work, man, you've inspired a lot of ideas for me... although I'm sure they wont be as easy as you make them look.

ah,the rest of them can go suck an egg:D

if it were easy, everyone would be doing it...then there wouldn't be anything special about it.

again about being wise! this is why i welcome tragedy! life is about contrast, you can't have happiness without sadness...

still trying to get this radiator happenning...an aluminum job was going to set me back about $1600 by the time i got it.that's just a little too rich for my budget.
i was also inquiring about just getting a raw core so i could build my own tanks(a big chunk of that price was labour on the fabbing-something i can do better without shelling out cash)but they won't sell it to me.

now i'm waiting on a price for a brass/copper rad.we'll see what that looks like,if i'm not pleased i'll look to other sources for an aluminum core.i'm sure there must be somewhere i can buy one.

i hate when i can't just build something myself-dealing with other people just gets frustrating.

You may want to look at computer radiators. They come in just about any orrientatiom you'd like that's divisible by 80mm or 120mm and you could stack as many as you'd like. Probably quite a few custom companies around too.

sounds interesting...got any more info?

I'd start with performance-pcs.com to get an idea of how they work and how they're shaped and go from there. You'll probably need to Google around to find one as big as you need but I'm sure somebody can make it. People have been using car radiators and heatercores to cool computers foe over a decade, it would be cool to see it work the other way for a change.

There's the radiator on my old gaming machine

i'll have to do some research...but flow capacity would be my biggest concern.remember, this engine has a 2'' hose feeding the rad,and the water moves fairly quickly through it.

and i have a sneaking suspicion that the cost for something with the capacity i need would get pretty dear, too.

Here's some food for thought. The rad in my fiero has an aluminium core with plastic caps. The core measures 20 x 16 and is cross-flow so it would need a header tank. If you could squeeze that size in you could weld two together face to face and make your own caps. The whole rad new was only a couple hundred bucks. Perhaps there are other cars with even closer sizes to meet your needs. It's always cheaper to buy something that's mainstream and modify it than to look for custom stuff. If you think that might work, just get the rest of the guys on the thread to go out and measure every rad they can, and what it's mounted in (if it's the right size).

so let's see if i'm reading you right...your core is 20'' from header plate-header plate, not including the tanks, and 16'' across the core top to bottom as it sits in the car.

if this is the case it may be close enough to make it work.
with the aluminum headers it would be easy to weld two cores together, building tanks is easy.

i'll have to give napa a call tomorrow and see what they want for them.any particular year or engine size i should be aware of?
