Another FW 78/79 dana 44 swap

I didn't use a calculator. Just SOTP. 200/300 are super soft. There is no way i would go any softer than what i am running now. I had 300/450 and they were way too stiff. Great for flying through the dirt, but not to flexy for the rocks. Now i can't go quite as fast through the dirt as the axle will hit crap, but it flexes damn good for having crappy arms.

But where are yours mounted and what angle are they at towards the center and what angle leaned back? Do you have any close up pics? Mounting location and angle make to big of a difference for everybody to the same rate.

I would be concerned with the spring rate under full axle compression first. Angling them at all will lessen the essential "spring rate".

I just did a calc for the effective spring rate of springs in series. So if the coilover was mounted perpendicular to the RA in the vertical plane, under full axle compresison, it would have a PPI of less than 100. That's soft.

I ask where your stops are set at and which one is your upper spring, because once it hits the stop, the spring rate is just that of your lower spring (upper spring doesn't compress anymore).

I'll have to check out FOA's site to see what they're doing.

you always set the stops so that the upper spring doesn't go into coil bind...

we allow for just under an 1/8" between coils at work for our springs....but they are alot higher spring rate:D:D:D

Measured some more tonight and looks like 20-25 degrees in off the inner c would work well. But might need higher rate springs .

Also looks like it needs a longer pitman arm with less drop. Anybody know what years f150 and bronco pitman arms work on a ranger box?

Stage 8 hub nuts came in today.

Lookin good. Any particular reason for the relatively large angle? Do you need them to be tipped in that much to clear the tire at full articulation?

Everything I have seen says lean them in at least 15 and 20-25 would give me a little more travel.

Any TTB ford will have a pitman arm that will swap onto the ranger. The application of drop vs flat in F150's here was completely random... check the yard and pull whatcha find!

i'll get you the picture of mine tonight. I don't have them leaned in anywhere near that far. I'll go through my thread to see if i took any pictures

Edit:

Here are a couple i found

I have no idea what they are leaned in at

Were you still wanting to swap pitman arms?

Think you might be done for the Sunday clean up?

I like that you're going coilover as well. I'm thinking I'll probably do the same some day. Stupid easy to mount and cleans up the frontend nicely. No coil bow issues. I could make it a true dual rate linear spring so it'd resist compression before slamming into my bumpstops. All around a good setup.

Not much got done tonight. Breather hooked up and a new spicer 5-153x (1310) u-joint got installed.

looking good, getting closer and closer.
