No luck on my Zx2 forum so I guess I'll post here and let you guys take a whack at it.

Symptoms-

Car doesn't want to go faster than 20 up hills. I'm assuming it won't go past 2nd gear, although I didn't have much of a chance to count up.
Has a terrible idle in park and stalls out.
Moves, runs, and drives fine. (other than the above issues.) The towtruck guy backed it off the truck and parked it in my driveway. He had to keep revving it to keep it from stalling out though.

Any ideas? I'm looking at the VSS but I'm yet to acquire some ramps to start testing things. I can't pull the codes because the battery was taken out of the vehicle. I'm not in too big of a hurry, I can drive my truck until this is fixed but I NEED it fixed by November and I WANT it fixed by August. I'm dumping at least a quart of oil a day in my truck to keep it going. I'm not sure how much longer the transmission on that truck will last me either.

Bad cat or maybe speed sensor. Check the forum in my siggy. Similar engine and some very knowelgable people over there.

I told you your ranger wasn't too far off ;)

Anywho... clogged and falling apart cats will result in performance you are describing. Did you have a CEL on? Pull some spark plugs and see what they look like. I've had something like your description on my first car, olds delta 88 with a 3800... turned out to be the ignition coil pack.

This isn't my Ranger I'm talking about here, this is my 90k Zx2. Rangers a hunk of junk but it's never left me stranded.

I'll check the plugs tomorrow if I remember. They were supposedly replaced at 80k so they should be new-ish.
