Ok, I'm running out of things to check/replace here. Bought this back in January last year, I've never hit anything better than 24 in mostly highway driving. Now with the Winter gas I'm down to 18.4 in my last fill up. Here's all my tune-up items (in order):
New Thermostat (OEM Temp, Failsafe brand) + Coolant Flush
New Rear Shoes
Seafoamed, New Autolite Copper Plugs and wires (Xact)
Clean the MAF
Replaced all the bad tires, keep them well inflated
New Fuel Filter
New Diff Oil
Added a Topper (didn't really change MPG either way)
New O2 Sensor (Drove 1000 miles and got a code saying it was running lean after it had been running for a while, never got the code since)
Just recently did
Full Clutch Kit + Slave
New PCV Valve
Front Wheel Bearings
Front Brake Lines (they were worn)
Remanned Calipers
New Rotors + Pads
New Air Filter twice (once a year)
I've fixed a couple of dry rotted vacuum lines in there as well. What kills me is the truck *drives* fine, save maybe having a little less power than I'd like (but it is only a 4 banger...). After the clutch replacement last week I did get a CEL that came on and went off while driving, which was a 332 in the memory (it was also a real air temp of -11, so I'm attributing it to that as it hasn't ever happened again).
I've lurked the threads here and RPS and everything I see says I should be getting 23-25 as I live out in the country and drive interstate to nearly everywhere. I keep the engine at 2500-3000 nearly all the time, which means barely using OD (and it doesn't have much oomph anyway). No, I don't have a lead foot; I regularly exceed EPA estimates in my wife's Malibu and my Accord DD.
At this point I might pull off the EGR tube and clean it out. That's all I got. Is there anything else I'm missing? I love her, I just wish she would get me a little better mileage!
