Ok, almost done with the duraspark conversion- I think I have it all wired correctly, only two more wires coming from the drivers side of the engine- feels like some kind of sensor, got a yellow/w red dot wire, and a black/w gray stripe, I think it is the knock sensor, can I just cut those wires and throw them with the rest of the crap?? What is a knock sensor, doesn't it just adjust the timing?? if so I can just throw it.

A little late now, but looking at a wiring chart, or having a manual would have helped a lot. (this note is really for the next guy to try)

The knock sensor screws in the block below the exhaust manifold on the driver's side. It is used with the computer - so just cut the wires and leave it in place.

And someone out there would probably appreciate it if you saved the computer and whatever other part for their Ranger - some of us have to keep the original junk and that stuff gets expensive.

The only wires you need are the wires for the alternator that go to the voltage regulator
(if you have the external type) and the wires for the temp sensor on the upper water outlet. And if you elect to keep the Evap system there should be a thick red wire for the purge solenoid.

If I thought mine worked properly I would have saved it. But my truck is prone to getting wet inside when it rains. :D
Before the swap I had the option of either: a truck that wouldn't idle on its own because the timing was too far retarded. Or, a truck that would ping like hell on premium when the timing was set correctly at 10°. After the Duraspark swap I have the timing set at 12° btdc and it never pings running regular.
