Yay! I set up my PC as my own Webserver

except beer breath, I would rather kiss a chick that smokes than 1 that has been drinking beer.

Hmmm, tell her to head to a dentist for an dental hygene exam.

A few beers shouldn't make your breath any worse than many of the foods we eat...

your wallet is $200 lighter after a night on the town drinking beer, the possibility of DUI, and the inevitable "hold my beer and watch this" 5 min before wrecking what ever gas powered toy you were playing with.........

A quart of Budweiser is ~$4 at the bar 2-3 blocks from my house. There's actually 4 or 5 bars in walking distance from here. I simply walk there. $4 x 4 qts (1 gal) = $16. They say that's 12 shots. When I start getting shots, bill gets up to $60-$70 bucks easy for less (about 11).

seriously, what good is drinking beer. you get the beer farts, the beer runs (and i don't mean going to the store) beer breath, bitter beer face,

Hard alcohol is a lot worse.

No.

A true geek would have spent 3 weeks recompiling Gentoo 327 times before the damn thing would even be stable.

I know several people who run server clusters using plain old desktop parts. What makes it great is that you build the redundancy into the cluster.

Personally, i wouldn't consider using windows as a server, but that's just me.

I am a Mac user but also enjoy playing around with various Linux distro's.

Derrrrr .... Linux mf'er, do you speak it?

How so?

Windows-IIS-Sql Server-ASP.NET is used by many fortune 500 and financial companies, whose systems require the utmost security and availability.

Where ever you're pulling those stats from is full of sh*t. How about Netcraft ...

That huge jump in '06 was entirely due to GoDaddy switching all of their virtual hosting over to IIS as well.

IIS performance and security are just as good as Apache's. That's a FACT. And there are many benefits to using IIS. Verizon and Wal-mart are two companies that rely on IIS, not Apache. Also, for a reason. .

Couple grand for the OS, couple grand for SQL Server, couple grand for Exchange, etc. When the software out prices the hardware 10:1 it starts to get pretty silly. Get a single hardware instance serving the MS stack, or an entire cluster running Linux/BSD, Apache/Tomcat, MySQL/PostgreSQL, PHP/JSP, etc for the same price? Hard choice ...
