This is not really "rare" per se but it's definitely uncommon enough to document, and it has a couple neat features that have been discussed recently, namely the swivel map light and roll up center console. Additionally, it has the XLS body trim. I've seen XLS Bronco II's before, I think those were far more common than XLS Rangers.

I'm fairly sure this truck is an '84, it has a build date of 3/84, and has the '83-84 steering column. I bought this truck for the doors and a couple other pieces. It's very rough and unfortunately has some title issues, second gen front clip, bad trans and a lot of redneck hack work has been done to it over the years so I will probably make a pickup box trailer out of it.

Here's the most interesting parts, the center console (unfortunately missing the rollup part) and the map light.

Odd, it also has black seatbelts. I have not seen that in a Ranger before. Also, note the XLS dash trim.

Enjoy, if anyone is interested in more pics of anything in particular, I'd be happy to take some - should have this truck for another month or so.

That upper console with the swivel light looks very salvageable.
Bet a lot of members would snatch that right up.

Yep! I'm hoping it's roughly the same size as the Touch Drive 4x4 deal on 1st gen trucks... I converted my ex stepside truck to a manual t-case and still have the switch panel there, hopefully I will be able to use the swivel light in that spot so I don't have a hole in the headliner. I'll probably keep the lower center console too.

@Jim Oaks

Looks like it was a pretty fancy truck back in its day, with the full tour of consoles, cruise, tilt, vent windows, dual tanks and the full door panels. A/C or no?

I think the touch drive console is bigger/wider than the maplight one.

If you find one of those maplight consoles for a steel roof let me know...

It does have AC. I think the only options it doesn't have would be power windows and locks.

I'll keep ya in mind for the map light. I seem to have a knack for finding odd stuff like that.

The guy I got this from also has a Bronco II with the electronic center console. It does not have the map light though. I may go back and get it... I'm kinda on the fence, judging by the license plates it's been sitting since the mid 90's, it's very rusty and there's not much I want from Bronco IIs.

Manual BW1350 transfer case AND linkage with boot, would be good to hold on to

Pretty cool truck with some interesting parts.

That was a cool truck. Too bad it's too far gone, but at least parts of it will live on. Seriously, thanks for taking the pics and posting; I like to see relics like this.

No prob, I like turning up and documenting rusty old junk like this. My luck with my lady friend has held out so far so I can't foresee being banned from bringing more home, I'm sure I'll run across a few more gems to post about:whistle:

I wish I would have gotten a title for it. I have fenders, grille, bumper, basically everything except a hood. I know the trans is stuck in 4th gear (may be a shifter issue) and I haven't heard it run, lots of unknowns there. Could be a cool truck to cruise around in if it wasn't such a basket case.

Did the previous owner die of a heart attack by any chance? Cant be healthy eating a gallon tub of butter with a spoon while driving...

Nah, he's still kicking, it was an ice cream bucket... he's just got the diabeetus now.

Were the smoker windows an XLS only option? I haven't seem them on a Ranger until now

I've had them on a bunch of trucks. I think they were available on any trim level.

I'd love to see the center console wire harness document, ie what it looks like, how its ran, & how its wired into the body. That kind of info is probably impossible to find but would love to add one to my GT someday.
