Wrist pin noise

XltSplash, it kinda neat how similar our 2.3s are from being over 10 years apart. Your engine bay is ridiculously clean:icon_surprised:

ljones it's good to hear the sealed power parts hold up. It's easy to clean the engine bay when the engine is out. The 2.3Ls do look similar. I was surprised how many changes Ford has made over the years to the 2.3L. Yours has more freeze plugs than mine. If you look behind the picture of my 97 engine on the stand you will see an extra complete 1974 2.3L that I have on an engine stand. It has a steal oil pan and timing cover. I like the metal timing covers better. I had to install a new inner timing belt cover on my 97 2.3L because it was broken.

i have a 92 ford ranger with a 2.3l also and i just hit 200k miles.
mine makes the exact same noise, but it runs fine. did you ever figure out what the issue is? because im stumped!!

I pulled my engine and replaced the pistons, rings and bearings and the noise is gone. The noise sounded a lot like lifter noise. It only made the noise at idle when warmed up. I had read many posts about other people that have 2.3Ls that had the same noise and they never posted what they found to be the cause. Mine seems to have been movement between a piston and a wrist pin when warmed up.
