So I put a new 2.9 in a few monts back and have been fighting with idle issues, idles high at 1200rpm when should be 800. I did not change any of the setting when's when switching parts over. I ran codes and it came up with egr faulty and temp sensor fault(I have a different guage for the temp) so my question is, would the egr be causing this? If not any other ideas wold be great.

There are two temp sensors, one for the gage, one for the computer.

The computer's has two wires, the gage's has only one.

If the temp sender is bad, it could make it run rich (sensing colder than actual coolant temp).

EGR should be completely closed at idle. While the engine is cold, manipulate the egr valve bellows full stroke a few times. Then with its vaccum hose off, stroke it to full open and plug the port on the valve with your finger. It should remain at that position and when you unplug the port it should fully close again.

An alternative is to route vacuum straight to the egr valve. When it opens, the engine should stall or run terrible and hunt for an idle.

I would fix the temp issue first.

FYI - you will get a temp sensor code out of range if you ran KOER with the engine cold. You didn't specify, but thought I would just throw that out there.
